Prophet Predicts Zimbabwe's New President
May 14, 2017
There is gnashing of teeth among Zanu PF's superstitious bigwigs who are engaged in a deadly dogfight to succeed President Robert Mugabe — after revered prophet, Madzibaba Wimbo, apparently completely ruled out any of them taking over from the wily, but increasingly frail nonagenarian.
Well-placed sources yesterday said the mysterious Wimbo — who is acclaimed for having allegedly foretold that Mugabe would rule Zimbabwe more than two decades before the nonagenarian came to power — "has finally spoken" on Zanu PF's bitterly-contested succession.
The famous seer — who has been subjected to significant abuse in the brawling ruling party over the past few years, as the former liberation movement's major factions fought to control him — had apparently prophesied recently that a new leader would emerge in Zimbabwe after next year's eagerly-anticipated national elections.
"He has made another prophesy that a new leader will emerge next year, but did not give names. However, he said the new leader is not among the current favourites who are engaged in Zanu PF's succession battles, but is an outsider," one of the sources at the secretive church said.
What Prophet Wimbo said (that the next president is an outsider with a foreign name), tallies with what United Family International Church (Ufic) leader, Emmanuel Makandiwa, prophesied when he waded into the raging Zanu PF succession storm, declaring that President Robert Mugabe will be replaced by a Zimbabwean presently based in the Diaspora.
With senior leaders in the former liberation movement, among them First Lady Grace Mugabe and Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reportedly angling for Mugabe’s throne, Makandiwa has literally thrown the cat among the pigeons, with a “prophecy” that seems to suggest the current vicious jockeying is in vain.

In a Sunday sermon streamed live on YouTube on 10 July last year, Makandiwa told his congregants that he was “seeing a person coming from outside, who was running towards the people of Zimbabwe”.
“This person is running in the opposite direction to people, who are running towards him, I see a spider and this spider is following this person, who is the chosen one to lead the people,” he said.
Makandiwa said if that person were to join a reputable opposition when he returns to Zimbabwe, he would be the leader to take over from Mugabe.
Meanwhile, Madzibaba Wimbo, who correctly predicted Mugabe's rise to the throne in 1957, has emerged as an influential and much-sought-after cult figure in Zanu PF — with party bigwigs firmly of the belief that he will anoint the former liberation movement's next leader.
"The prophet said the person who will next lead Zimbabwe will have a 'foreign name' and that there will be great suffering in the country for some months. He also predicted that the army will intervene in politics," the first source claimed.

Fellow Zimbabweans, we have nothing to lose but freedom to gain
January 12, 2017
Their atrocious legacy is well documented: Gukurahundi, land grabbing, corruption, crony-capitalism, state-sponsored violence and massive electoral fraud, among others. Ironically, ZANU PF’s legacy mirrors that of the colonial regime that it replaced.
Mugabe and his government have perfected the colonial legacy of dictatorship to its extreme and detestable form. Ghanaian Economist, George Ayittey has no kind words for such regimes. They fall under what he calls a “vampire state” which has been hijacked by “bandits and crooks who use the instruments of state power to enrich themselves, their cronies, their tribesmen and exclude everybody else. The richest people in Africa are heads of states and ministers. The bandit is the head of state himself.”

In the context of Zimbabwe, most individuals will fully concur with Ayittey.
In ZANU PF, corruption is fought in words but promoted in attitude. This explains why Saviour Kasukuwere, Obert Mpofu, Jonathan Moyo, Gideon Gono, and Goodwills Masimirembwa, among others, are still walking scot free despite being some of the most corrupt human beings on earth.
Corruption has cascaded from the top echelons to every corner of the Zimbabwean society. In relation to post colonial Africa, Frantz Fanon was “prophetic” on corruption: “scandals are numerous, ministers grow rich, their wives doll themselves up, the members of parliament feather their nests and there is not a soul down to the simple policeman or the customs officer who does not join in the great procession of corruption.”
Not anger but shame is felt when one is faced with the reality that government’s corruption scandals in Zimbabwe seem to have no end; they are ever growing at an alarming rate. From the missing $15 billion from Marange diamonds, Jonathan Moyo’s USD430 000 ZIMDEF theft to Saviour Kasukuwere’s shoddy land deals; the government corruption and scandals mill rages on.
Government’s corruption in Zimbabwe has stirred a deadly pot of stark civil resistance and disobedience. From the Occupy Africa Unity Square campaign, #ThisFlag, #ThisPot, #ThisGown, #ThisFlower to the militant #Tajamuka/Sesijikile; the message is clear: ZANU PF has ruined the country and must be shown the exit door.
In reaction to these pro-citizens movements and resistance, in a Gestapo and fascist style, the state has descended on the protestors with an iron fist: civic society leaders have been arrested; Itai Dzamara abducted, judges threatened, activists’ vehicles torched, students gagged, vendors evicted and protesters brutalised.
Fascist laws and regulations have been put in place to stall the peaceful protests. Martin Luther and Mahatma Ghandi condemned unjust laws and argued that an unjust law is not a law at all. The Zimbabwean dictatorship is camouflaged and insulated in unjust laws. Yet Montesquieu teaches us that there is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice.
The violent suppression of peaceful and democratic protests by the state in Zimbabwe can lead to only one result: bigger, bolder and better forms of peaceful resistance against the state. From the past and historic dictatorships in Latin America, Europe and Africa, we clearly learn that you cannot stop political change when its time has come.
POTRAZ’s raising the cost of internet to limit the citizens’ access to social media and information is a self-defeating exercise. Such a move smacks of a desperate regime clutching at a last straw. Resorting to crude propaganda will also not work because we clearly comprehended George Orwell when he said: “politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.”
Orwell also warned us that: “Political language… is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” State propaganda by ZANU PF mouth pieces such as the The Herald, The Sunday Mail, The Chronicle and ZBC is the fire that warms the spirit of peaceful resistance in Zimbabwe.
The ZANU PF narrative of oppression in Zimbabwe is a sad narrative. It is a narrative of inconsistencies, contradictions and ironies. It is a narrative of liberators who turned into tyrants, a narrative of freedom fighters who have turned into “freedom slaughters.”
In relation to ZANU PF, one needs to reflect and understand the words of Napoleon Bonaparte when he said that among those oppressed are many who like to oppress. Instead of learning from the evil vices of colonialism, the current regime in Zimbabwe has not only adopted the colonial style of governance but has also perfected it.
When faced with such a tyrannical oligarchy and kleptocracy, locking oneself in the world of silence is not the solution, for Martin Luther warned us that our lives begin to end when we are silent about things that matter. The Zimbabwean youth should not be silent.
The Zimbabwean youth is a troubled youth: it is an unemployed youth. Now is the time for the youth to spread the message of change to every corner of the country. Leaders should be made accountable, voter education and mobilisation should be rolled out and values of peaceful and democratic means of political resistance should be inculcated. Corruption should be unmasked, resisted and destroyed.
The youth should carry out this task. They must also preach the message of unity and push for a grand coalition of political parties under a sole candidate in 2018. Democratic political change is the only way the Zimbabwean will regain his or her long lost dignity.
Let me conclude by saying that, Zimbabweans from all walks of life; it is time to find each other more than ever before. Drivers, teachers, dentists, barristers, lecturers, plumbers, “ghetto” youths, conductors, economists, journalists, doctors, students, mechanics, nurses, women’s groups, church leaders, vendors, pilots, engineers, political parties, intellectuals, the elderly, diasporans and civic society organisations; it is time to unite for action and deliver political change to the people of Zimbabwe in the next elections.
We should take a leaf from what #Tajamuka/Sesijikile Spokesperson, Promise Mkhwananzi recently said. He said in 2017, we will resist ZANU PF on the streets, in valleys, on mountains, in bars, kitchens and even in our bedrooms. In his New Year message, Pastor Evan Mawarire dubbed 2017 as “The Year of People Power.”
To Zimbabweans in Beitbridge, Umzingwane, Tsholotsho, Gwanda, Mwenezi, Chiredzi, Plumtree, Bulawayo, Chimanimani, Masvingo, Shurugwi, Gweru, Harare, Victoria Falls, Nyanga, Rusape, Binga, Mutoko, Chinhoyi, Kwekwe, Kariba, Mount Darwin, Mhangura, Sanyati, West Nicholson, Mvuma, Kadoma, Mutare, Bindura and those in the diaspora, among other places, we have nothing to lose but freedom to gain!

Zuma's Wife to Take over South Africas Presidency
January 12, 2017
The probability of South Africas President Jacob Zuma's ex-wife, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, becoming the next leader of the African National Congress was given a boost on Saturday with the endorsement of the ruling party's women's division.
The ANC will pick a new leader at a conference in December and, given its national dominance since coming to power at the end of apartheid in 1994, the winner is likely to go on to be South Africa's next president when elections are held in 2019.
Dlamini-Zuma, the chairwoman of the African Union, is viewed as a frontrunner. She is a Zulu, the largest tribe in South Africa, and is expected to have the backing of her former husband, who will have a major say in who succeeds him.
The Women's League's endorsement is the first for a specific candidate by a national section of the ANC and will intensify the debate over who will take the party forward after it suffered its worst local election results last year.
Dlamini-Zuma was regarded as a capable technocrat during her time as South Africa's minister of home affairs between 2009 and 2012 and has since gained international exposure during her time as the first female head of the AU.
However, critics of Dlamini-Zuma, a medical doctor trained in South Africa and Britain, say she should have done more to intervene when former president Thabo Mbeki denied that HIV causes AIDs and imposed anti-scientific policies.

Mbeki's stance has been blamed by health activists for more than 300,000 preventable deaths. Dlamini-Zuma was foreign minister in Mbeki's cabinet and one of his closest allies.
Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa, a unionist-turned-business tycoon, is viewed as her most likely rival after powerful trade unions endorsed him last year.
Neither Dlamini-Zuma, 67, or Ramaphosa, 64, have declared their intention to run.
Ramaphosa, who was once touted as a successor to Nelson Mandela, would be the first choice for many investors because his background in commerce suggests he will support more pro-business policies than many in the traditionally left-wing ANC. Source Telegraph

Grace Mugabe is under fire for purchasing a $1,3m diamond ring
January 12, 2017
By Gift Phiri The First Family’s holiday break in the Far East has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple allegedly salted away millions for the annual jamboree after scaling back financial perks for public sector employees, and as First Lady Grace Mugabe is under fire for purchasing a $1,3m diamond ring through a Lebanese dealer Jamal Ahmed.
The ring was said to be the couple’s 20-year wedding anniversary present.News reports claimed that the first family has spent $6 million of Zimbabwe taxpayers’ money on the latest vacation, which has seen it shuttling between Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong and China. Branding her “a vacation junkie”, analysts and opposition parties said the 51-year-old mother-of-four has been indulging in jet-setting, five-star hotels, and splashing out on expensive trips.
While the 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe and his wife do pay for some of their personal expenses from their own pocket, the amount paid by the couple is “dwarfed by the overall cost to the public”. She is also often criticised for her pricey, high-end wardrobe, and is considered one of the best-dressed ladies in the country — with the price tags to prove it — with her sartorial spending inviting ridicule. Her backers flatter her as a “fashion icon” on a “mission to make the world a better place for orphaned children.”
She runs the Amai Grace Mugabe Children’s Home in Mazowe housing 98 homeless and orphaned children. “If we are to nurture the children into good citizens, then it means we have to do all we can to give them necessary support,” she said in a recent interview. But some believe Grace’s lifestyle is lavish at the cost of the people of Zimbabwe, one of the poorest countries in southern Africa. To her supporters, she is glamorous, beautiful, charitable and royal, but to many of her citizens, she is extravagant, meddling and possibly off-rails. Political commentators claim Grace and her husband Mugabe, purchase “swanky stuff … constantly” and “on Zimbabweans’ dime”.
Speaking on the $6m for the trip and the diamond ring, senior consultant at the International Crisis Group, Piers Pigou said: “Both examples reflect different aspects of profligacy by the first family and a related lack of accountability that, at a time of profound and widespread deprivation among ordinary Zimbabweans and much-needed austerity, further damage their image both domestically and internationally.”
The jaunts come as Mugabe has skirted the issue of bonuses for government workers in one of the most drastic measures yet to save money at a time of one of the worst financial crises that has seen government racking up a record budget deficit.
It also comes as the economy is collapsing; cash and fuel supplies dwindling, and State coffers dry that the regime struggles to pay salaries or bonuses, with public-sector strikes, street protests, and desertions by key allies.
Stephen Chan, a professor of world politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London told the Daily News: “Now is not a moment for conspicuous consumption by leaders or their families in any part of the world.
“Whether the money involved was earned by legitimate business or not, examples of modesty are important to a struggling population.”
The first lady has drawn comparisons at home to Imelda Marcos, who fled the Philippines at the climax of the army-backed “people power” revolt in 1986 and left behind staggering amounts of personal belongings, clothes and art objects at the palace, including at least 1 220 pairs of shoes.
Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Kucaca Phulu said: “It shows the gross disrespect for the common people and the extent to which a party that purports to be a revolutionary party is actually exploiting us just as we were exploited by the colonial masters.
“They will face the fate of Imelda Marcos and others who have taken their people for granted in the past.”
One such purchase by Grace was a ring encrusted with diamonds and costing almost $1,3 million which she later rejected, opting to have a refund.
The matter came to light after Ahmed dragged her to the courts as his properties were confiscated by the first lady over the issue.
Last week, the High Court ordered Grace off Ahmed’s three properties which are in Harare’s leafy suburbs within 24 hours.
The first lady’s lawyer, Wilson Manase, has said he would challenge the provisional order but Ahmed’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, insisted that the first lady was in contempt of court, arguing a provisional order cannot be appealed against.
“The first lady’s defiance of a court order clearly shows that the political system in Zimbabwe, especially the State institutions that must hold politically-exposed persons accountable and prevent them from pursuing naked, self interest, have collapsed,” said academic Maureen Kademaunga.
“The system has atomised and chaos has become the new normal and because of this individualistic and unaccountable people like the first lady can get away with murder.
“The first family’s unchecked excesses have for long contributed to the intractable poverty of our people. Without a complete change of government and an aggressive programme to reform State institutions, we will forever be at the receiving end of this abuse.”
A social commentator who declined to be named said Grace’s diamond ring story is a tale of arrogant extravagance in the face of a starving nation.
“Her behaviour has shown how the nation has been dehumanised and taken for granted by an elite bent on milking Zimbabwe to the last drop.
“She represents a class that has turned Zimbabwe into a lucrative fish pond where only she and those facilitating and protecting this patronising pillage can catch the fish.
“The net result is the trickling down on corruption to all sectors of the civil service and the poor will suffer to eternity,” he said.
MDC spokesperson Obert Gutu said Mugabe and his family want to lead a swanky and fabulous lifestyle of billionaires or some other such filthy rich celebrities when in actual fact they have successfully managed to ransack and loot the national economy of Zimbabwe; in the process leaving more than 90 percent of the population living as destitute and tramps in their own country.
“It really boggles the mind how the first family can have the audacity and temerity to go on a $6 million State-funded extended holiday in Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Dubai when millions of Zimbabweans are wallowing in abject poverty.
“These people are shameless. They have got absolutely no conscience. The Zanu PF regime, fronted by Robert and Grace Mugabe, is a disgrace to all of us Zimbabweans. These people should simply go!”
Peter Maregere, a peace and security analyst and doctoral researcher, said beyond the mere condemnation, extravagance and intransigence that goes with these obscene expenditures, the broader issues around the designing and implementation of institutions of governance that are transparent, accountable and responsive with clear and unadulterated recall mechanisms, remains a yawning gap in the country’s democratic endeavour.
“That such astronomical figures can be spent without remorse, without having regard to the context and the predicament within which the country finds herself in, is a serious indictment to ‘our’ leadership model as a nation,” Meregere told the Daily News.
“Inevitably reproving the individuals and not viewing this as a societal misnomer with the audacity of condemning the futures of our children needs careful trading.
“Invariably, this demands our collective effort in designing sustainable democratic solutions — a systemic process that is more heuristic and holistic in nature to accommodate both individualistic and societal approaches in the promotion of thought leadership located within the institutions I alluded to above.” Daily News

Grace Mugabe Declares Self President
November 20, 2016
Zimbabwes controversial First Lady Lady Grace Mugabe has reportedly told the Zanu-PF women's league that she "plans and does all things with her husband President Robert Mugabe" meaning, she is already President of the country, Thereby confirming the long held suspicion that she was running the State's affairs for Mugabe. Mashonaland West women's league chairperson, Angeline Muchemeyi said Grace notified that she has no reason for her to fight to be Vice-President, a lesser position, when she was already running the Nations affairs.
Muchemeyi revealed this after the Zanu-PF women's league passed a resolution that Grace remain secretary for women's affairs in the party.
Contrary to speculation that there will be a push by women to have the Zanu-PF constitution changed to allow a woman Vice-President, a move that has been viewed as paving the way for Grace, Muchemeyi said the First Lady had said she was comfortable steering the women's wing because she was already running the affairs of the State.
Asked if the Mashonaland resolutions were in a way a sign of ditching Grace, Muchemeyi said: "Grace told an executive meeting that she is ‘already the President' and would not want to be appointed VP, as it was a lower post.
"The First Lady said I'm the wife of the President, I'm the president already … I plan and do everything with the President, what more do I want, for now the position of the women boss is enough."
Last year, Grace said Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko took instructions from her.
Grace has been linked to the G40 faction that is said to be opposed to Mnangagwa succeeding Mugabe.
The women's league had been pushing for a female Vice-President, a move viewed as aimed at toppling Mnangagwa and have him replaced by Mugabe's wife.
In a surprise turn of events, the women's' league spoke highly of war veterans, saying women respect the former freedom fighters because they are principled, unlike newcomers in the party, who are bent on destroying Zanu-PF for money, but Muchemeyi did not elaborate on this.
"We have our war vets, who have a history in the party, they respect our President because they went to war, but the factions are created by handpicked members, who do not have liberation credentials," she said.

Magistrate says Lumumba ‘confused’ – keeps changing lawyers
August 02, 2016
A Harare magistrate has described former Zanu PF activist Acie Lumumba as “confused” because he is continually changing his lawyers.
Lumumba whose real name is William Mutumanje, is charged with undermining President Robert Mugabe’s authority after telling him f*** you during the launch of a new party. On Tuesday, the Magistrate, Mr Vakayi Chikwekwe chided Lumumba for “bringing a new lawyer for every court session”. This was after he brought Advocate Zvikomborero Chadambuka to represent him.
In the last court session, Lumumba was represented by Advocate Nelson Chamisa. Earlier on he had been represented by Mr Arshiel Mugiya. Chikwekwe yesterday inquired if the new advocate was instructed.
The defence counsel produced a letter from Lumumba’s first lawyer, Mr Mugiya, which Mr Chikwekwe said was not clear. Prosecutor Mr Oscar Madhume said the matter was being continually postponed at the insistence of the accused.
To this Mr Chikwekwe said: “Accused you are confused, go and put your house on order.
“With so many lawyers in the country, I wonder how many you will bring to this case.”

Lumumba seeks Constitutional Court referral of his matter following the dismissal of his application challenging his placement on remand.
He said his constitutional rights as enshrined in the Constitution were being infringed upon.
Allegations are that on June 30 Lumumba said “Mr President Robert Gabriel Mugabe f*** you. I am drawing the red line, our kids are in trouble so it is a red line I know and my name is Lumumba, Lumumba, Lumumba . . . ”
He was addressing a press conference where he unveiled his political party.
It is further alleged that he went on to say that if anything happened to President Mugabe, his children would be dealt with.
“I am someone’s child, a war veteran’s child, you can touch me, but I hope you live long because God forbid something happens to you and you leave your kids, they will be touched too.”
This week Dr Alex Magaisa, a law lecturer at Kent University in the United Kingdom said that Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act that provides against insulting the president is unconstitutional as it is too vague and violates freedom of expression and citizens’ political rights.
“Section 33 is an outdated and unjust law which is not fit for purpose. It is unconstitutional and should be struck off the statute books because it is a serious hazard to democracy,” said Magaisa in a recent blog. (Read the full article here).
“An executive president is an active politician who routinely trades arguments with and exchanges occasional political jibes against opponents, especially during election time.
“It is inherently unfair for a legal system to give protection to a president who freely criticizes and insults competitors whenever opportunity permits,” said Magaisa.
“Indeed, the reality in Zimbabwe is that President Mugabe has often publicly insulted his political rivals and other critics and yet the legal system has often descended heavily upon those who allegedly insult him,” added the law expert.
He added: “A law that fails to treat all persons equally falls short of the standard of the right to equal protection of the law and against non-discrimination which are protected under Section 56 of the Constitution.” Nehanda Radio

The Man Who Could Have Prevented 9/11
October 20, 2015
Real estate tycoon and republican presidential candidate Donald Trump sat with Fox News Sunday (October 18) to further push his immigration policy, which he thinks could’ve prevented the terrorist attacks on September 11.
“I’m extremely tough on people coming into this country,” Trump said. “I believe that If I were running things, I doubt that those people would have been in the country.”
Trump’s comments come on the heels of his on-going feud with rival republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush on whether or not his brother, President George Bush kept the country safe during 9/11.
The war of words has been brewing since the GOP debate when Jeb Bush praised his brother’s leadership following the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
“I’m not blaming anyone,” Trump told Fox News “But the World Trade Center came down. So, when he said, ‘We were safe’—that’s not safe. We lost 3,000 people.

Tsvangirai has associated himself with Mai Mujuru
September 14, 2015
Morgan Tsvangirai
Fidelis Munyoro and Samantha Chigogo
Opposition MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday admitted he was in discussions with expelled former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru for a possibility of working together in a bid to dislodge President Mugabe and Zanu-PF from power in 2018.
Working with the opposition to undermine Zanu-PF was one of the charges Dr Mujuru faced as she was fired from Zanu-PF and Government.
However, Mr Tsvangirai said they had not reached a point of negotiating for a coalition given that Dr Mujuru was still to form a political party. “How is it a coalition when the people involved have not even discussed the issue . . . discussions about discussions are not coalitions, any coalition is based on institutional relations not individuals,” said Mr Tsvangirai in an interview with ZiFM last night.
“Mai Mujuru has not launched a party. You can’t talk of a coalition of Mujuru and Tsvangirai when she has no party.”
Mr Tsvangirai did not rule out the coalition with Dr Mujuru saying: “It is not cast in stone. We are open to discussion. We are open to converse about what are the possibilities for the country . . .”
On whether he was ready to deputise Dr Mujuru in the event of an opposition coalition winning the election, Mr Tsvangirai was evasive, pointing to a potential leadership tussle should westerners who are believed to be trying to get Tsvangirai and Mujuru together have their way.
He said coalition partners would have the mandate to decide who among them should be the leader of the country.
Turning to the presidential term limits, Mr Tsvangirai said he was not prepared to stand down as long as his supporters showed confidence by retaining him.
Mr Tsvangirai has been at the helm of the MDC-T for 16 years now after tinkering with his party’s constitution. The party holds congresses every five years to choose their leadership and Mr Tsvangirai has always manipulated his way to stay in power.
“I can’t stand up there and say because some people feel that I have stayed long when my own congress feel they have confidence in me,” he said. “It flies in the face of democratic principles of subjecting yourself to the voice of the people.”
This resulted in some listeners slamming Mr Tsvangirai that if he could not run his party democratically, how would people expect him to run the country democratically.
Mr Tsvangirai in the interview also denied links with the US saying his party had roots in Zimbabwe.
But there was time when Mr Tsvangirai was forced to participate in the elections by the US government, arguing that would he expect to rule the country if he boycotted elections. In what appeared to be confirmation of the US’ growing displeasure at Mr Tsvangirai’s leadership style, Mr Gregory Simpkins, a director in the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organisations, said local opposition parties could not criticise a system that they were not part of.
Mr Tsvangirai had vowed his party would not participate in any polls without electoral reforms amid reports that the former trade unionists had fallen out of favour with most of his party Western funders.
“Often times we have heard the opposition saying it is tough to compete, they have to find a way of being effective rather than just saying it is too tough to compete so we are not going to take part. If you do not take part in an election process, how can you criticise something that you did not even test?” Mr Simpkins queried
At the time Mr Simpkins made the remarks, he was in the country as part of a two-man US Congress delegation on an investigatory mission to find ways of mending relations between Harare and Washington
Tsvangirai was battling to ward off criticism of his decision with accusation he literally donated 16 parliamentary seats to Zanu-PF in June by-elections triggered by his recall of “rebels MPs”
Jonathan Moyo Faces Zanu-PF Disciplinary Action.
September 12, 2015
ZANU-PF politburo member and Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo faces disciplinary action for his continued use of social media platforms to attack fellow party members in defiance of a directive by President Robert Mugabe barring members from doing so.
Moyo has of late been very active on Twitter, rebuking senior party members, and at times breaking diplomatic etiquette by attacking high ranking officials from other countries. His most high profile Twitter victim has been Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

He rebuked Mnangagwa over his utterances in an interview with London-based NewAfrican magazine last week, where he insinuated that Zimbabwe will miss Mugabe.
Zanu-PF spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said such actions were wrong and subject to disciplinary measures.
"Once the President has said stop it, he has said so… there is no need for anyone to defy that," Khaya Moyo said.
"Although the VP [Mnangagwa] might be wrong, culturally, to talk about a post Mugabe era, Comrade Moyo is wrong to rebuke the VP on twitter," a Zanu-PF insider said yesterday.
"Why should he use Twitter to undermine what the VP said?
"Even if he does not agree with what he said he should use the politburo or even approach him to raise his concerns as opposed to be posting it on Twitter."
Mugabe in his address to the Zanu-PF Central Committee recently ordered his comrades to stay off social media.

400 Zimbabweans die in South Africa every month
March 10, 2015
SOUTH AFRICA – An estimated 400 bodies of dead Zimbabweans are repatriated into the country every month from South Africa, with most of the deaths being a result of murder, the Financial Gazette can report.
Horror stories are told of Zimbabweans dying in gruesome deaths in neighbouring South Africa, a situation government said was a cause for concern.
Although Zimbabweans also die in many parts of the Diaspora, their deaths south of the Limpopo River are way more than in other countries.
Last month, a Zimbabwean woman from Bikita was shot and killed after being caught in a crossfire as armed robbers led a heist at a Standard Bank branch in Musina.
Deaths by knife stabbings and shootings are routinely reported, particularly of Zimbabweans staying in South African townships.
In March last year, 23 Zimbabweans died at a disused South African mine after inhaling high levels of carbon monoxide underground.
HIV-related deaths are also quite common as are suicides (jumping off high rise buildings), shootings and other causes.
There are also a few murders by burning, particularly in xenophobic inflamed incidences.
Although the Zimbabwean government could not provide an overall figure of repatriated bodies, sources said Beitbridge, which is the largest border into Zimbabwe from South Africa, processed the repatriation of 100 bodies a week, which translates to 400 a month.
Funeral parlours across the country confirmed handling the repatriation and burials of about 400 Zimbabweans who are dying in South Africa every month.
Kings and Queens funeral parlour, headquartered in Bulawayo, said they were handling the repatriation of at least 120 bodies monthly, at an average of 30 bodies per week through the Beitbridge border post.
Reuben Phiri, chief executive of Kings and Queens, said the bulk of its clientele were Zimbabweans, although they now provided services to Mozambican and Nigerian nationals.
“The bulk of the corpses which we handle according to distribution; nearly 70 percent are going to the Mashonaland provinces, while the rest are destined for the Matabeleland provinces,” said Phiri.
Auxillia Dzenga, the public relations and marketing manager at Moonlight Funeral Services head office in Harare said most of the repatriations they handled were from South Africa, with murder topping the list for the cause of death.
“I would say on a weekly basis we receive an average of five bodies and monthly about plus or minus 20 cases. The causes may vary, but the biggest number is murder,” Dzenga said in an e-mailed response to questions.
Francis Mabika, the assistant regional immigration officer, said official statistics of corpses being repatriated into the country were tabulated by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA). The Financial Gazette was, however, unable to verify the figures with ZIMRA at the time of going to press.
But Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi admitted that violence and instability in South Africa was a cause for concern, as many Zimbabweans were being killed in the neighbouring country.
“It’s just not Zimbabweans only who are being killed, but many other nationalities as well,” said Mohadi. The Home Affairs Ministry, Mohadi said, did not have any records of the deaths.
“I don’t have numbers of the repatriations we receive in the country, but as you well know that the incidents of crime are too high in South Africa. In South Africa when it comes to things like these (crime and violence) they are common place…and are always high, but we unfortunately do not have documented figures,” he said.
It is estimated that between two to three million Zimbabweans live in South Africa.
It costs anything between R10 000 (US$857) and R23 000 (US$1 973) to repatriate a corpse back to the country from South Africa.
It costs anything between R10 000 (US$857) and R23 000 (US$1 973) to repatriate a corpse back to the country from South Africa.
Hard pressed relatives of the deceased loved ones normally choose the cheapest option to cut down on costs.
The US$857 package which includes a coffin and basic transport to accompany the corpse by relatives is the most preferred.
South Africa with its allure of flashy cars and the promise of a better life has been the destination of many locals seeking a better life.
With the xenophobic tensions persistently rising up in South Africa and tougher immigration laws in place, political observers say engagement by authorities in Pretoria with their counterparts in Zimbabwe is the best way to avoid a bloodbath ensuing, from which Zimbabweans are likely to bear the biggest brunt of. Chiyangwa, Harare City Council seal deal
March 03, 2015
Philip Chiyangwa
Fidelis Munyoro Chief Court Reporter
The long-running land dispute involving thousands of hectares in Harare pitting property magnate Dr Philip Chiyangwa and Harare City Council has finally come to rest after the parties struck a settlement.
Over the past years, council has been under immense pressure to reverse the land exchange agreement it entered into with Dr Chiyangwa’s company, Kilima Investments in 2007.
Council even sought the intervention of the courts to reverse the land swap deals, but lost.
This prompted council to engage Dr Chiyangwa and swayed him to agree to return the disputed properties for either cash payment or alternative land.
As a result, a deed of settlement that culminated in a consent order was hammered by both parties and subsequently granted by High Court judge Justice Happias Zhou.
The swap deals involved five pieces of land in different suburbs.
According to the consent order dated February 18 2015, the parties agreed that council would compensate Kilima for all the immovable property returned to the local authority.
The parties agreed that an industrial stand known as stand 389 Derbyshire , which has since been returned to council has a market value of $3 251 550 while Ballantyne property that is to be transferred back to council is valued at $1 000 000. This brings the total value of the two properties to $4 251 550 00. Instead of paying cash, council agreed to exchange the two properties with about 12 pieces of land with a combined value of $4 040 350, 50.
“The exchange of agreed value will leave the City of Harare indebted to Kilima in the sum of $211, 198. 50 (debts),” read part of the consent order.
In terms of the order, Kilima would cede the debt to CBZ Bank meaning that debts due to the company would now be owed by council to the bank.
“The parties acknowledge that CBZ Bank Limited has agreed to the cession and that the City of Harare will settle the debt by crediting CBZ bank’s City Rates Account,” read the order.
“Any amount due to CBZ Bank by Kilima above the sum of $211 198, 50 shall be paid exclusively by Kilima.”
Last year, Dr Chiyangwa won a High Court order compelling council to transfer properties to Kilima, or to pay him cash equal to the prevailing market value to reverse the deals.
Justice November Mtshiya, ruled that council breached its land exchange agreement with the businessman magnate and barred the local authority from selling or disposing of any of the properties at the centre of the dispute.
He ruled that council made an unlawful resolution to settle the deal by paying $17 000 and repossessing properties in Ballantyne Park at a meeting held in September 2012. At the time, Dr Chiyangwa argued that council had since 2007 been agreeable to the deal in terms of which he swapped an industrial property for residential stands.
He argued the council only made an about-turn at one of its meetings held on September 12 2012.
He accused council of breaching the rules of natural justice and fairness in the swap deals, when it sought to repossess the pieces of land it had ceded to Kilima.
Mujuru whirligig dance isn’t forever
March 03, 2015
You may be wondering what kind of dance this is. Well — and this is a bit of education for many of us — the whirligig beetle is the now infamous hard-to-catch, whirling water beetle called nyungururwi.
It is the same nyungururwi, the whirligig beetle, which we are told has been one of the main ingredients of witchcraft former Vice President Joice Mujuru allegedly dabbled in, in a plot to topple President Mugabe.
And whirligigs come in many colours, shapes and sizes.

Which makes it possible to have two whirligigs distinguishable in a mortal combat.
Those that come from the rural areas, if they happen to be women who at some point in their lives thought the forming of hard, little breasts had taken a wee too long and the bite would induce such growth, may attest to the sharp bites of these little beetles.
So myths around whirligigs abound.
While some of these myths, like the magical powers to grow breasts, are innocent enough, the stuff that President Mugabe has been telling us makes one cringe.
Or laugh at the utter foolishness of Mujuru’s efforts.
But then, in these parts you don’t laugh off witchcraft all that easily.
It is a lesson that some student at college, who scoffed at the idea of witchcraft and how people could be used to work in other people’s fields, learnt very well when, one day, he woke up with mud right up to his knees!
He had been working in the paddy, rice fields, when his foolish educated head thought he was sleeping in some dormitory.
This is Africa.
This is our own patented science — whatever the reasons we cannot deploy it to the best means.
Like injecting cash into the economy.
Now, President Mugabe, during his birthday commemorations over the weekend dished out more on the shenanigans of his former deputy Joice Mujuru.
We thought we had heard the worst of her nocturnal activities including making tea for some American Ambassador, but the latest revelations paint a picture of the archetypal African woman who “wakes up”.
Hence, the moniker “Zimuroyi reDotito”.
And added to that the corruption allegations levelled against her, this has given rise to new nomenclature in town.
Anyone who is corrupt and solicits for a kickback or “share” is now called a Zimuroyi.
So, a corrupt guy from Mbare would be “Zimuroyi reMbare”; or for someone coming from Chitungwiza, “Zimuroyi reChitungwiza”; and so on.
This is how Zimbabweans learn so fast and laugh away their troubles.
The new revelations that the former Number Two outsourced Nigerian expertise in witchcraft are shocking, but not surprising.
We all have been watching Nigerian movies and, boy, the stuff they purport witches and wizards and sorcerers do!
There are also extraordinary prophets, too, whose services some Zimbabweans, plebeian and otherwise, have sought.
President Mugabe told of the shocking and macabre rituals: the beheading of chickens and sheep.
The earmarking of people for death.
If that had come to pass, President Mugabe would be a goner; so would be his wife, Amai Mugabe, and Emmerson Mnangagwa and Ignatius Chombo, and so on.
The road would be clear for Dr Mujuru to take over.
To have the country of Zimbabwe under her mighty spell.
That all sounds surreal.
Best of all, the alleged nocturnal activities have not yielded fruit.
Nay, they have yielded bitter fruit for the restless hand.
It is said that witchcraft is dangerous business because if you do not do things properly, the whole thing may backfire spectacularly.
Or is a caveat, a proviso, a way out by the unscrupulous sangomas and fake prophets, to mask their own trickery?
Look, we have the Nigerians in this saga. We hope that the former VP does indeed not have such a simple mind as to be affected by what we see in “African movies”.
Women like them, believe them, generally, don’t they?
But that is as far as the foolish drama goes.
Back to the real, realistic, issues.
We notice that the disgraced former VP is fancying herself as some kind of martyr and even believes hers is a kind of golden silence.
She broke the same on Monday issuing a statement to the private media.
Before venturing into the contents of the statement — and there is precious little of content — it will be useful to ask what has happened to allegations of corruption that have been levelled against her, a dossier for which is understood to have been in preparation? Her infamous whirligig dance must come to an end.
The members of her cabal, including Didymus Mutasa and Temba Mliswa, have been fingered in criminal activities against persons and the State.
Some of these allegations are not very hard to prove and a lot of aggrieved persons are waiting by the gate, having been cowed by the assumed and certainly borrowed powers of the members of the cabal.
We have perfect candidates for jail and the prisons would do well to have alumni like Mutasa and Temba and Mai Mujuru.
That is, on top of other notable contemporaries like Robert Martin Gumbura.
She cannot feign honour, which she has been doing in her statements to her private media mouthpieces.
She has close to none.
She tells us that she “fought for the liberation of this country and hold the ideals of the liberation struggle and Zanu-PF close to my heart.”
Somebody educate us, was it part of the liberation ethos to demand bribes, bringing in foreigners to loot minerals and working with the foreign funded quislings such as those she got into bed with in the MDC?
Is undermining the national economy by bringing into the country banned products part of the liberation ethos.
Is using undue political influence and not paying up debts part of the instructions of Chairman Mao?
Is that “national building” she touts herself to do?
And she should be reminded that Bhora Musango and working with the opposition are the ones doing “unnecessary the destruction” of the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF.
All this makes her current dance with freedom, all too long drawn-out and need for halt.
Mujuru hires Naija sangomas
March 01, 2015
PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday revealed that former Vice-President Joice Mujuru approached traditional healers and performed wicked rituals in a bid to install herself in his stead. At celebrations to mark the 29th anniversary of the 21st February Movement here, President Mugabe said at one point, Dr Mujuru roped in two Nigerian sangomas in her rabid pursuit of Zimbabwe’s most powerful post.
The President said it was imperative to seek God over superstition.
“We managed to know what Mai Mujuru was doing at her house, even consulting n’angas. Pamwe zvatinomboitwa! (laughs) Pakambobatwa nyungururwi. Ndakange ndisingazive kuti dzinosiyana parudzi; kuita macolours akasiyana.
“Imwe yainzi itsvuku, imwe yaive nerumwe rudzi. Nyungururwi munodziziva? Dzinomhanya maningi dziya idzi. Ndokuiswa muchirongo chine mvura. Imwe ndoyainzi Mugabe, imwe Mujuru, dzichirovana ipapo. Kubva ndamboitwa nyungururwi ini? Zvatinomboitwa kuseri kwatisiri uko!”
He continued: “Recently, she invited two Nigerian sangomas. We heard that they were specialists in the field of witchcraft. They were specialists, yes, but specialists in robbing people, foolish people.
“Vakauya zvikanzi zvatinoita, zvinoitwa netsika yedu. Tsvagai huku gumi. Zvakare ndaitwa huku ipapo. Iyi Mugabe, iyi Mai (Grace) Mugabe, iye (Emmerson) Mnangagwa – akaiswawo ipapo – nana(Ignatius) Chombo futi, aive neyake, kudakara tasvika gumi vainzi ava ndivo vanondidzivisa. Zvikanzi tinovabvisa nemaNigerian iwayo. Zvakanzi chekai musoro, Mugabe ndobva achekwa, Mai Mugabe guu. Chakangosara changove chimutumbi
chehuku chachekwa musoro chave kungoti puu puu. Mnangagwa wo nekwake puu, puu. MaNigerians iwayo. Ropa iroro rakazunzwa hameno zvakaitwa ipapo zveun’anga zvacho zvichinzi havararame kusvika pazuva ratinaro nhasi iri.”
President Mugabe said the rituals were weird as they were conducted while Dr Mujuru was semi-nude.
“Izvozvo zvange zvichiitwa ivo vanzi bisai hembe. Bisai hembe; mazamu pachena, ugonzi unosara uku chete. Zvatinoitiswa vakomana! Mai vatakaenda navo kuChimurenga?”
The President said another round of rituals aimed at engineering his and the First Lady’s death took place at Dr Mujuru’s farm in Beatrice.
“Uko ndiko kwakanourayiwa shanu (hwai). Hameno kuti Mugabe wafa kare apa pashanu apa wange achazomuka ave hwai futi? Asi akanzi akamuka kubva apfupfurirwazve ipapa. Imwe yangu, imwe yemudzimai. Apa handina kunzwa kuti VaMnangagwa vakadii.
“But dzakava shanu (hwai) dzakaurawa kupurazi ikoko zvikanzi pisai. Huku dzese dzaiurawa dzainzi hadzidyiwe. Takapfupfudzirwazve zvikanzi muchaona. I said to myself: ‘Where do these Nigerians get the powers to entrap the soul of a human being into a chicken or sheep and then kill him?”
“God is for us all. I also go to church; I do not believe in superstition. Takafundiswa dzidzo yekwaMwari.”
President Mugabe said sacked Minister of State (Presidential Affairs) Didymus Mutasa was also at the centre of the plot to unseat him unconstitutionally.
He said one should not be power-hungry, adding that at no point had he dreamt of becoming President and was chosen by others to lead.
“I worked alongside my peers. I was never ambitious. I never said I will become a President, really. I just did my work as was given me…
“Not a single Cde I worked with will ever say I complained about the job I had been given, I expressed the desire to get another job at the top. Never, ever. I thought what I have been given was sufficient to make me busy, contributing what I could towards the growth and development of the party and towards growth and development of our struggle.
“But others thought I could lead. I accepted that leadership and I want to say I have done my best and I have never worked in a manner that I was the only one who can do things. No.
“What I have always refused to do is to work outside principle, outside what we would have determined as the programmes within the orbit of definite principles.”
Tsvangirai Speaks on Mugabes Fall
February 08, 2015
HARARE – Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said he feels for President Robert Mugabe and wishes him well following the latter’s tripping at the airport on Wednesday.
Tsvangirai, the opposition leader who has become President Mugabe’s political arch-foe since he emerged onto the scene at the turn of the century, told journalists in a brief interview that he felt for the president.
“I feel for him. It was an unfortunate incident and I hope he receives the care that he deserves,” said Tsvangirai.
With his MDC-T party spokesperson Obert Gutu having told news agencies that the president’s “tripping” should be enough reason to retire, Tsvangirai seemed concerned and sought to project a humane tone.
On the other hand, another faction of the opposition, MDC Renewal Team expressed anger at the harassment of journalists in the aftermath of the incident.
“While we are not celebrating the unfortunate incident that saw the president falling, we condemn in the strongest terms the harassment of journalists who were interrogated and ordered to delete pictures from their cameras.
President Mugabe missed a step and tumbled as he walked to his official car moments after addressing supporters at the Harare International Airport on his return from a working visit to the African Union headquarters in Ethiopia.
He was last week appointed AU chairperson and declared he was going to lead the continental body on a new trajectory towards development.
Meanwhile, President Mugabe reported for duty at his Munhumutapa offices on Thursday to chair a Cabinet meeting despite Wednesday’s “carpet mishap”.
In a statement, the presidential spokesperson George Charamba said the president arrived at his offices walking unaided and told him that he was fine, dismissing the incident as a mere slip.
“The president’s ability to report for work without any difficulties is in direct contrast with the misrepresentation in private and Western-sponsored media who had a field day in trying to portray the trip as a huge fall which they also tried to associate with his age when in actual fact it was a mere trip that was caused by a poorly laid out carpet,” Charamba said.
According to Charamba, the president reportedly dismissed the incident as “just a fall” and did not seem perturbed.
