Italian designers Stefano Gabbana (L) and Domenico Dolce |
According to a report on the pro-sodomy website GayStarNews, fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana have angered radical LGBT groups by saying they do not support same-sex families.
Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, who both are homosexual, are the founders of luxury fashion brand Dolce and Gabbana.
The duo, who were a couple for 23 years before splitting in 2005, made the comments in an interview with an Italian magazine Panorama on 11 March. The interview was translated by LGBT News Italia which has now started a #BoycottDolceGabbana campaign on social media.
Some of their statements:
“The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
“You’re born and there is a father and a mother. Or at least it should be. So I am not convinced that I call children of chemistry, synthetic children”
“Procreation must be an act of love. Today even psychiatrists are ready to face the effects of these experiments.”
While Gabbana says he would like a family, Dolce says he does not.
“I am gay, I cannot have a child. I guess you cannot have everything in life. Life has a natural course, some things cannot be changed. One is the family.”
Some users on social media have described their words as ‘dropping a bomb on the LGBT equality movement.’ But in fact there are many self-identified homosexuals who do not believe that same-sex couples should have the right to “marry” and pretend to be a “family”.
