Gokwe man impregnates own daughter
Gokwe man impregnates own daughter
A GOKWE man who twice sneaked into his daughter’s blankets and allegedly raped the teen, impregnating her in the process has appeared in court facing two counts of rape.

The abuse came to light when the man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl allegedly sired a baby boy with his 15-year-old daughter.

Gweru magistrate, Sithabile Zungula, 44, remanded the man in custody to October 23.

Prosecutors said on October 6 last year the man sneaked into his daughter’s bedroom hut and raped her once before threatening her with death.

Sometime in December last year, the man sneaked again into the bedroom hut and raped his daughter once.

The girl kept the rape ordeal to herself but on August 5 this year she gave birth to a baby boy.

When she was asked who had impregnated her the girl revealed that her father had raped her twice.

The case was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the man.

Jambanja Pahotera as CIO official gets Trapped in Hotel with a married woman

February 07, 2015
HARARE – A MEMBER of the Central Intelligence Organisation was yesterday rescued by a senior cop after he was trapped in a hotel room with a married woman.

It was a rendition of the late musician Marko Sibanda’s Jambanja Pahotera as there was confusion that only calmed after the arrival of anti-riot police as the woman’s husband demanded that the love birds open the door to their love nest. Gray Mashava had arranged with his lover Maud Mashinya Maningi, 32, who is married to Ezra Maningi to meet him at Harare International Airport at 6pm on Sunday enroute to their love nest at the Meikles Hotel.

Gray was however being trailed by Ezra’s informants who drove behind him and Maud who was driving a Nissan Extrail – registration number ACY 3976. H-Metro has been informed that Gray was coming from South Korea while Maud had lied to her mother and Ezra that she was visiting Masvingo.

Sources close to the family revealed that Maud was tracked from home through to the airport until she was caught holed up in the hotel room when she was supposed to be in Masvingo, as she had told the family. Maud was booked in Room 514 in her name according to hotel records and she drove Gray from the airport to a restaurant in Eastlea.

When H-Metro arrived at the hotel, Ezra was shouting on top of his voice demanding Maud to open the door and hotel security were making efforts to calm him down after guests made a report. “Ndava kutofonera amai vako izvezvi vauye ukasavhura door kuti titaurirane,” Ezra was heard saying.

“Inga ndakabvisa roora wani tikachata wandifungira mweya wakadaro sei kuita chihure chakadaro haunyare vana here Maud,” he fumed as he made a call to Maud’s mother who is based in Norton. H-Metro recorded the conversations and the fracas that lasted for nearly four hours before riot police arrived at the hotel accompanied by one Assistant Commissioner Operations Moyo who rescued Gray.

Ezra is said to have warned Gray on several occasions and the latter ignored, bragging of his position and connections. “Ezra warned Gray on several occasions for sending love messages to Maud and he bragged of his position as a CIO operative. Ezra discovered a message where they agreed to meet on Sunday leading to the trap,” said the source.

Hotel security failed to control the situation leading them to call police who arrived in riot gear. H-Metro witnessed talks between Ass-Comm Moyo and Ezra that led to the release of Gray. Gray left the hotel around 3am on Monday morning, covering his face with a jacket.

He was also escorted by uniformed police officers as riot police followed closely and he sped off in a Ford Ranger (registration ADF 1706).

“What I want is to talk to my wife and nothing else, vandirambidza kupinda muroom maanga ari and they refused to put me on handcuffs so as to make sure I don’t turn violent,” said Ezra.

“I love my wife; we have three children aged seven, five and two. With me here is our Seventh Day pastor and my cousins who came to witness the incident.

“I informed her mother and she told me that Maud also lied to her that she was visiting Masvingo only to find her here with a married man.

“Kutambira murume wemunhu asati atomboudza mudzimai wake kuti akafamba sei? I am now worried of my life since this man is well connected and he showed it by calling a senior police officer to rescue him here,” said Ezra.

Gray refused to entertain H-Metro. “Ndiani, handizirini Mashava,” said Gray hanging the phone. Contacted for comment, Maud promised to furnish H-Metro with details after entertaining other calls. “I will call when I am done with my calls, sorry,” said Maud before hanging her phone.

Maud is a second year student at Morgan Zintech Teachers College. Meikles Hotel general manager identified only as Mujoma referred H-Metro to their spokesperson saying he was not in a position to comment.

“It is better to call our PR department sometime later since the report is still to reach them about what exactly transpired,” said Mujoma.

Efforts to get comment from their PR department proved fruitless until the time of going to print- H-Metro

Drama as police Mercedes catches fire during kombi chase

February 07, 2015
MUTARE – There was drama in Mutare’s Hospital Hill low-density suburb on Monday morning when a highway traffic police patrol Mercedes Benz caught fire during a high speed chase with a commuter omnibus that had flouted road rules.Drama as police Mercedes catches fire during kombi chase

Residents from the relatively quiet hilly suburb said they heard tyres screeching as the police vehicle followed up the Toyota Hiace, which had diverted from the main tarred road near Mutare Provincial Hospital and drove into the badly damaged dirty roads in the suburb.

In no time, they saw smoke gusting from a distance and subsequently heard loud cries as the police officers screamed for help from members of the public to put out the fire on their service vehicle.

When Weekender visited the scene, a fire tender from the Mutare City Council had quickly responded to the emergency call and managed to douse the flames with water.

Another highway patrol vehicle also rushed to the scene to assist their colleagues, who apparently were left awestruck by the foiled kombi chase.

The Mercedes Benz C class vehicle, which is valued at more than US$30 000, had its wiring system badly damaged by the fire, which started from the engine area.

“The car hit a pothole and caught fire,” said one of the police officers who did not identify himself.

Although the police officer downplayed the high speed chase incident saying they were just patrolling the pot-hole riddled suburb with little traffic activity, residents and vendors who sale wares in the area said they witnessed the typical “Fast and Furious” movie incident.

“We first saw the kombi speeding down the damaged steep slopes and moments later the Mercedes Benz came roaring.

“These guys were determined to catch up with the kombi. Some metres into the suburb the vehicle caught fire and we rushed to help,” said a vendor.

Kombi drivers and pirate taxi operators appear to have devised ways of outwitting chasing traffic cops. One such trick is to divert from the highways into dirty roads where cops behind the wheels of state-of-the-art traffic patrol vehicles and motorbikes find it hard to manoeuvre the bad roads.

What happened at the Hospital Hill suburb seems to bear testimony to this thinking.Manica Post

Another, 2 Policeman rape Prisoner without protection

January 29, 2015
Pamela Shumba Senior Reporter
TWO police officers based at Cowdray Park police base have been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old theft suspect.

Constable Norman Njaya was arrested on Sunday, while his colleauge Constable Constantine Musetwa was arrested on the following day after they allegedly took turns to rape the suspect, who was being accused of stealing some clothes and money from a Good Samaritan who had offered her accommodation in December last year.

Sources told The Chronicle yesterday that the Good Samaritan only identified as Sipho apprehended the suspect on Sunday and ordered her to remove her panties and shoes before surrendering her to the police.

Njaya is alleged to have later asked the suspect whether it was true that she was not wearing panties.

“The suspect confirmed and Njaya took her to an empty room close to the charge office and demanded to see for himself. She complied and Njaya grabbed her by the waist and raped her once without using protection while Musetwa was on guard,” she said.

“Njaya ordered the suspect to go and bath in a toilet at the police base. After bathing, Musetwa took her back to the room and raped her once without protection before releasing her.”

Sipho yesterday told The Chronicle that when she left the suspect one of the police officers told her that he would rape the suspect and she thought it was a joke.

She added that when she came back, she only found one police officer while his colleague and the suspect were not there.

“I asked him where the two had gone and he told me that the girl had escaped. While I was still interrogating the police officer, his colleague appeared with his buttons out of order. He also told me that the girl had escaped. I immediately sensed that there was something wrong and I told them I didn’t understand why they would let go of a suspect, whom they had actually failed to arrest,” she said.

She added that the suspect appeared later in the company of four police officers from Luveve Police Station.

“I asked what was going on and the girl revealed that she had been raped by the two accused. She said they took turns to rape her without using protection before she ran away and boarded a kombi.

“A police officer noticed that she was crying and identified himself before asking her what had transpired. She told him what had happened and he took her to Luveve Police Station where she made a report,” said Sipho. Njaya, she added, was immediately arrested, while Musetwa was arrested yesterday. The suspect was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment, while Nyaya and Musetwa are detained at Luveve Police Station.

Zanu PF youths boo Mujuru ally

January 29, 2015
SEKE MP Phineas Chihota was on Tuesday booed by a group of rowdy Zanu PF youths from Mashonaland East province who called for his expulsion from the party for allegedly working in cahoots with ousted former Vice-President Joice Mujuru to topple President Robert Mugabe.
OWN CORRESPONDENT
The incident happened at Dema business centre in the presence of Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Joel Biggie Matiza.
The dozen-plus youths waved anti-Chihota placards and accused him of corruption and fanning factionalism.
Some of the placards read: Chihota haudi Mugabe, How far neCDF? and Pasi naChihota.
Both Chihota and Matiza did not respond and remained seated at the high table when one of the youths advanced to the legislator and accused him of making unilateral decisions in the constituency. Chihota, who was Zanu PF provincial secretary for administration in the dissolved Ray Kaukonde-led executive, could not be reached for comment after Tuesday’s drama.

Dr Clarence is one of Zims finest Humble talents to inspire other youths into producing, Dr Clarence mentored the likes of DJ Mbale, T Man, DJ Sude, Cure Massive amoung many, also helped the Likes of Dadza D, Shinsoman, Killer T and Guspy Warrior in their grassroots, I am not trying to boast by am challenging all established zim talent to mentor others and not compete with new talent, People where asking me how i feel about terminator calling himself the Dancehall Specialist, and i reply today, He is one of my favourite artist at the moment and ive no problem with him along with Celscious and Kina, these guys will go places,

Below is a Medly Video of Voice riddim Shot by Dr Clarence, produced by T Man, who deserves at least a nomination at the ZimDancehall Awards

What have i achieved as an artist apart from a few worthless haters, I dont own a benz, i own a 6 roomed house in Kuwadzana, a fleet of Taxis branded Dr Clarence, a residential stand in Manyame park wich i am currently selling to boost my investments, I urge the youths to work with me instead of wanting to compete with me, I am not some school failure, i can go and work in the office anytime, but i like the money um getting now, enough to buy myself haters, My biggest horse has been Stunner, but now he has been trying to prove a point for the past 5 years, 2015 um pulling stunner back into his kraal, ive kept a few friends around whose loyalty um now in doubt of,

2014 saw me reestablishing myself into film,i didnt start now but way back before 2008 when i was the editor for award winning top class soap Estate Blues, working together with Admire Maramba. Video production is too easy for me,thats why i never shoot beyond 5 Shots a video, you are free to count clips in any of my produced videos, Ive never shot a music video in more than 30minutes, if you are in doubt then hire me, I shoot you today, you have your video the same day,I use the smallest camera, canon SX 130

Sometimes i even shoot with an I Phone, i use my self programed software, wich is a hybrid of Adobe After Effects and Sony HD,

Making beats has become to easy for me so i challenged myself to learn to play every instrument there is in this planet, the Joy of learning new things didnt last long after i taught myself the guitar in one week, all the other instruments that followed became maters of a few minutes, I challenge the media to bring me any instrument and i will play it

When recording Audios i dont use a Studio Condenser mic, Thats why my vocals have clarity, Funny isnt it?

Dynamic microphones are more robust than condensers. and Dynamic microphones can handle higher sound pressure levels than condenser microphones. especially these Zimmdancehall yelling type of vocals, n my entire carrier i have never used Headphones they close the brain and music loses its aquistic feel.

People only buy condensers as a result of the Veblen effect.

Veblen effect: when people buy expensive stuff when they could have cheaper versions. In audio, the Veblen effect exists for users who are trying to achieve prestige by spending more money than they should. However, when audio engineers consider their budgets and requirements, most will buy the product that fulfills their needs in the most cost-effective manner possible.

and finally I don’t need condensers because my mixing is perfect!

This March 2014 i am opening a Radio Station, with or without a government license.

I Just thank The Lord Jesus for granting me any opportunity,  which many never had the Chance to, everyone is talented we Just have to work a little harder and Keep positive no mater what people say, if they say the have never seen anything like that just tell them when the plane was invented people then had never seen anything like that, you are yourself there is not another you,

Gweru man caught Servicing Brothers Wife

January 29, 2015
Blood is thicker than water but this is evidently not always in a case where woman is involved. A Lower Gweru man allegedly had an adu****s affair with his elder brother’s wife resulting in the siblings taking each other to the chief’s traditional court for arbitration.
man caught behind bushes
The incident, which has since set tongues wagging in Lower Gweru, occurred in the Shagari-Mdubiwa area under Chief Mkoba.
Chief Mkoba confirmed the incident. He said the wronged brother, Christopher Moyo, 47, claimed that he had on several occasions been warned by family members to be wary of his brother, Lloyd Moyo, 30.The traditional leader said Christopher told his court of how his wife, Siphathisiwe Netha, 40, and Lloyd engaged in playful games, which are “undignified in nature”.Christopher is said to have defended the two as he trusted them.“He said his wife and younger brother had always been too close for comfort although initially he had never given it much thought as he trusted his brother,” said Chief Mkoba.
“He went on to narrate that his worst fears were confirmed when he caught Siphathisiwe in his brother’s room hurriedly trying to spread the bed as if to conceal something.”Netha is, however, said to have denied the allegations when confronted arguing that her husband was blindly clutching at straws in a bid to toss her out of their matrimonial home. She alleged her in-laws were behind her husband’s “weird allegations”.Netha said the in-laws were inciting Christopher to come up with the trumped up charges of adultery since they had always resented her.
The chief added: “The woman accused her in-laws of trying to destroy her marriage on countless times before.“In her defence, she told my court that Lloyd was the only member from her husband’s family who accepted her, hence their close relationship. She vehemently denied that there was anything s*xual going on between them.”The chief granted a separation order and divided the livestock and assets in favour of Netha as she is the one who will live with the children.“It was evident that (Christopher) Moyo was no longer interested in the marriage, so I granted them divorce. I gave Netha four beasts while the husband got three. The woman will also remain at the homestead,” he said.

Brenda said they had agreed to have se*ual

"I was at Leisure Sports Bar when this man approached me and I told him that short-time (of s*x) ndinoita US$5 upon which he negotiated and we agreed on US$3; handina kuramba nekuti iJanuary disease ka iyi," she said, bursting into laughter. Brenda said she has two children who need to be taken care of as she was struggling to make ends meet. She also said she normally takes her 'clients' to her place of residence in Unit 0 but her sister was sick such that no one would open the door for her.
"Ah haaa aya mashura chaiwo. Masango matema-terra chaiwo regai ndibve ndaenda kumba kunorara. "Asi ndofunga kumusha kwaitika mashura chaiwo," she said. Chaoreki said he wanted to quench his se*ual appetite as he is single but he did not have enough money to book a room that is why he resorted to doing the act in the vehicle. "Ndanga ndisina mari, ndiregerereiwo asi handina kana mari ndine dollar chairo. "I don't have a wife so I just wanted to quench my se*ual appetite," he said. The couple received a thrashing from the people who were irked by their shenanigans.By Nyasha Mutena.

January 29, 2015

For this reason, Charles David has been ordered to stop going to maternity wards alter his case was heard before Chief Makuni real name Nicholas Chawora Muzika in the presence of the District Nurse Officer only identified as Dhlana. David's sexual acts reportedly came to light after one of the Nyatsama Villagers, Shelter Chinyanda,  disclosed that she was approached by him where she was told that her hypertension problem would only go by engaging in sex with him since she was not married.

Shelter alleges that she demanded blood tests before sex and they were both tested for HIV and were both found negative. Shelter discovered later that David was taking A RVs after she visited him at his house for another sexual treatment. Chief Makuni confirmed hearing the case saying he fined David a beast and referred the case to police after overwhelming evidence during the trial. "We heard Shelter and David's case and I fined him a beast after many witnesses from the village claimed that he was sexually violating pregnant women visiting the maternity ward," said Chief Makuni. "I called his superior from Rushinga nursing district and he attended the court and it helped villagers who complained bitterly about how he was treating pregnant women, Shelter's case aside. "I wrote a letter to the magistrate after referring the case to police since there was overwhelming evidence that David deliberately infected Shelter with HIV" said Chief Makuni. Narrating how she was 'sexually treated', Shelter claims that David is the one who tested their blood and he apologized and promised to pay her after she found the life prolonging tablets in his house. "David deliberately infected me with a sexually transmitted disease after conducting fake blood tests and some of his workmates insulted me calling me names after I took my issue to them," said Shelter. "He gave me some tablets after I threatened to

"I made a police report at Rushinga under CR 33 /1 I /14 and no arrest was made before I decided to report to Chief Makuni. "Police officers asked me to go for HIV testing before they could make an arrest and someone told me that David was influencing the investigating officer and that angered me much. "Chief Makuni fined him a beast but he never paid it and that beast will never compensate my health he has affected and as we speak I am receiving six injections daily at the same clinic following the incident. "David told me that he is not married and having sex with him many times would reduce my stress so as to normalize my hypertension problem and he ordered me to stop taking BP tablets after several sex sessions with him," said Shelter. Contacted for comment David told H-Metro that Shelter is after destroying him and referred further questions to Chief Makuni who heard the case. "I am tired of being questioned by different people about this case and I am fully aware that Shelter is the one spreading lies in her effort to destroy me," said David. "Since she took her case to my superiors and her chief I am still conducting my work here and look those people are waiting to be served by me. "Yes I am no longer attending to pregnant women and as for those questions better visit the chief who heard the case and is the one aware of everything regal ndiite bass; asi nemiwo munoda kundiparadza, aunza nyaya iyoyo kwamuri ndiani? Sulu to perform at Magaya service

January 29, 2015
Sulu to perform at Magaya service

PROPHETIC Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries is never short of surprises.

While matters of belief are deeply personal and are best left alone, the Magaya ship of conversion has somewhat chugged onto the entertainment scene attempting to convert artistes with mixed success.

They have not stopped there as they have even gone further to engage some secular musicians to perform at their services.

Just when the ministry was beginning to grow, it got associated with raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda whose relationship with the church ended when she trekked back to the pub.

Other musicians like Nicholas Zakaria and Allan Chimbetu have also found sanctuary at the church.

Tocky Vibes has also found his way into the church and now Sulumani Chimbetu will be performing at the church’s Sunday service.

Apparently, this could be confirming Sulu’s affection for the prophetic ministry as one of his songs Musandisiye on his latest album Gunship appears to suggest he has for long had such plans.

Part of the track Musandisiye goes like “Mukoma ndapota musandisiye pamunoronga ronga, Amai Charamba musandikanganwe pamunoenda kukereke,
Prophet Magaya musandikoshiwe pamunotaura paye.”

So Dendera Sunday it is at the gigantic blue church in Waterfalls.

Sulu’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma said there was nothing wrong with them performing at a PHD service.

“People must understand that musicians also have spiritual life and they do go to church and on Sunday will be fellowshipping at PHD,” Nyamungoma said.
“Secular artistes can also inspire goodness.

“Those who are going to come for the service will testify that there is nothing wrong in having a secular musician performing at a church service.”

Nyamungoma said they would substitute most of the lyrics to suit the church set-up.WINSTONE ANTONIO Newsday

Harare Policeman rapes a mentally ill woman

January 28, 2015
Court Reporter
A 23-year-old policeman from the Police Protection Unit allegedly raped a mentally-challenged woman in the Avenues area whom he had “arrested” for loitering.

Bornwell Mudunda, who was donning his police uniform, allegedly raped the woman in his car as a way of facilitating her release.

He was remanded to February 24 on $50 bail with the State’s consent.

The prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira, alleged that on January 25 this year, the victim was approached by Mudunda’s accomplice (name not supplied) at Tipperary Night Club, the court heard.
It is the State’s case that Mudunda’s accomplice grabbed the victim’s handbag and started demanding his $1 back, which he had initially paid for her to enter the club.

He started walking back to a parked car while still holding the victim’s bag and the woman followed him.

When they got to the car park, the court heard that the man ordered the victim to get inside the car and she complied.

When the complainant got into the car, she then saw Mudunda who was wearing his police regalia sitting in the car.

Mudunda reportedly locked the vehicle and told the woman that she was under arrest.

He allegedly advised the woman that they were going to have sexual intercourse as a way of facilitating her release.

According to the State the woman refused and Mudunda is said to have raped her.

After the act, Mudunda allegedly ordered the woman to disembark from the vehicle.

She then rushed back into the club and informed her friend who assisted her in reporting the matter to the police.

Harare woman goes mad, Passersby interested in taking pictures not helpping

January 28, 2015
Arron Nyamayaro and Mirirai Msingo HMetro

EXPERTS have described the woman who soaked herself in the Africa Unit Square pools on monday as a sign of mental illness adding that this could happen to anyone. Zimbabwe National Association for Mental Health director Ignius Murambinda bemoaned the society's attitude towards mental illness adding that Stigmatization is very high, its unfortunate that people make fun and dramatize such incidents yet no one takes his/her time to understand what could be happening to the individual, People usually get carried away by the unusual drama and are more interested in taking pictures than helping the individual.

Cause of mental illness vary from genetics, depression, alcoholism. mental retardation to accidents.

This woman could have been under depression for a very long time until she could not take it anymore,
The woman started making $exual dances, moves and passers by jostled to record all the action with their mobile phones. The unidentified woman was seen with her hand bag and and mobile phone in the park before she jumped into the water. Her shoes and handbag could not be located afterwards, She threatened to beat up police officers who tries to take her. She was seen earlier  along Angwa Street making the same antics whiles singing Zimdancehall songs.

All you need to know about Tocky Vibes

Tocky Vibes
Born Obey Makamure
November 29, 1993 (age 21)
Harare, Zimbabwe
Occupation

Zimdancehall Artist
Songwriter
Years active 2009 - Present

Background

Tocky Vibes was born Obey Makamure on 29 November 1993 in Rugare Suburb, Harare. He began singing at a very young age where it all seemed like a joke until he released a single calledTirikumhanya. Fate would have it that he was moved to rural Masvingo where he had to make a living, as things were difficult for him. He returned to Harare in December 2012 and picked up where he left off, only to find that things were not so easy. Tocky Vibes had to then move to Rusape where he found a job as a herd boy (carer of cattle), and would later find that the amount of signing gigs increased for him in Harare and he'd travel frequently.[1]

Music Career

To talk of the contemporary Zimdancehall music in Zimbabwe without mentioning the name Tocky Vibes will not only be unjust but ignorance of the very vital aspect of the whole. Raised in the Rugare suburb of Harare, Tocky’s love for music began when he was still in his teens. It is this love which later on manifested and pushed him in to the recording studio. Since then, his unique voice and touching lyrics made his fame to spread like wildfire. Tocky started recording music in 2009. Tocky Vibes has produced a number of songs in form of singles and albums.

Genre

Tocky Vibes has concentrated his efforts in the production of a unique kind of music called ZimDancehall. The genre is unique in the sense that it is wholly Zimbabwean and it has won popular support due to its home grown flavour as compared to the urban grooves genre and hip-hop which are western oriented. Tocky’s lyrics are distinct from those of his fellows due to a commendable and credible level of maturity that he exhibits in his music. There has been wide criticism showered on some ZimDacehall musicians due to the explicit nature of their music content. Tocky Vibes stands as a beacon of light considering the level of maturity in his lyrics.[2]
In most of his songs, he appreciates the role of parenting figures, the importance of fidelity as well as the rewards of working hard. In his song titled “Shanda” Tocky deploys a unique artistic style in which he exhorts himself and other musicians to work hard in the industry despite various setbacks that they encounter. In one of his songs, he also talks about the HIV and AIDS pandemic. It goes without saying that one of the most adored songs, and perhaps his outstanding song in 2014 was “Amai”. The song “Mhai/Amai” (mother) was a dedication to his mother, or loosely to all the mothers, thanking them for their roles in the upbringing of children.

Discography

Below is a list of some of Tocky Vibe’s songs which won popularity in 2014;
  1. Mhai
  2. Shanda
  3. Handityi
  4. Kudzamisa Pfungwa
  5. Handina zvinoera
  6. Dziripo Hama
  7. Ndini Ndinorira
  8. Batai Homwe
  9. Simudza Maoko
  10. Tirikumhanya [4]

Performances

Tocky Vibes’ performances have mostly been done local. The most notable include the Harare Agricultural Show in August 2014 where he performed alongside some of the established ZimDancehall artists such as Winky D, Killer T and Soul Jah Love. He also performed at the Lion Lager Beer Festival in October 2014 where he rubbed shoulders with some reggae icons from Jamaica.[5]
Tocky’s live performances have been outstanding however, some critiques have ridiculed the young artist’s artistic dressing especially during live shows. During the Lion Lager Beer Festival performance, Tocky went to stage dressed in traditional tweed which included a black garment which is associated with spirit mediums. Critiques commented that Tocky Vibes was desperately looking for attention through his Mbuya Nehanda dressing style. However, these assertions can be dismissed as baseless. Tocky Vibes is one of the most talented musicians in Zimbabwe and his dressing is part of his unique creativity which has a credible bias towards the Indigenous African culture.

Controversies

Tocky was involved in a number of controversies and scandals especially during his festive season shows in December 2014. During his performance at the high profile Mafikizolo show at the Harare International Conference Centre, he allegedly blocked a fellow musician Jah Prayzah from entering the stage to show solidarity with him after bottles were thrown at him by the disgruntled fans.[6] Tocky was furious with Jah Prayzah's entrance and he was quoted arguing that the latter had come to steal the limelight at the show. Jah Prayzah was manhandled by Tocky Vibes security personnel from the stage and this showed somewhat a tense relationship between the two popular artists in Zimbabwean music arena.

Scandals

It appeared the past caught with Tocky when the media started churning reports linking the artist to a love affair with an under aged girl. Local media houses reported that Tocky fathered a child years back with a girl who was aged 13 then. The girl, identified as Linda James was said to have been living inMarondera with her mother and did not know where Tocky was living after his new found fame. She argued that Tocky was no longer taking care of his child.[7]

School that charges $1,500 a term in Bottom 10 list

January 28, 2015
Three of Bulawayo’s top private schools failed to justify the high fees they demand after they performed dismally in the November 2014 Grade 7 examinations.

Whitestone Primary School (Picture by bulawayomemories.com)

Carmel Primary School, Petra and Whitestone are all in the bottom 10 of Bulawayo’s 120 primary schools, according to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s results analysis.
Whitestone Primary School, whose fees are pegged at $1,500 a term, recorded a 15 percent pass rate with Petra Primary School slightly better with 31,80 percent of its pupils successful. Parents sending their children to Petra must part with $1,070 per term.
Carmel Primary School, which charges fees of $1,000 per term, recorded a 35,70 pass rate.
Among the 10 worst performing schools are Hyde Park Primary, Mthombothema, Hope Fountain, Aisleby, Mbuyazwe, Tsetse and Mbonqane.
Mbonqane Primary School in Khami was the worst performer, bringing the rear with a zero percent pass rate – a 12 percent decline from 2013.
Riverside Stimulation Centre, according to Zimsec statistics, is officially the best primary school in Bulawayo Province after recording a 100 percent pass rate – a feat which also saw it share the national number one spot with 39 other schools.

Graded by the number of pupils who sat for the exams, Redcliff Primary School in Kwekwe – with its 152 pupils who excelled – is the best school in the country after achieving a 100 percent pass rate. By comparison, Riverside had 12 pupils writing Grade 7 exams last year.

Bulawayo province recorded an average 85 percent pass rate. Fairview Primary School dropped from pole position to second with a 96,7 percent pass rate.
Centenary Primary School moved from second position last year to third with a 96 percent pass rate followed by Dominican Convent in fourth position with a 95,3 percent pass rate.
Mahatshula – which charges fees of just $61 per term – was fifth with a pass rate of 94,9 percent after 98 pupils sat exams. St Patrick’s, Mackeurtan, Coghlan and Amavene also made it into Bulawayo’s ten best schools.
ZRP Ross Camp Primary went in the wrong direction, shifting from the top three to eighth position with a 94,4 percent pass rate. The school has been consistent by maintaining a high pass rate in past examinations.Masiyephambili, SOS, and Pelandaba dropped out of the Top 10 schools this year although they recorded pass rates of above 90 percent.
Over the years, most privately-run primary schools in Bulawayo have performed dismally in Grade 7 examinations, despite the high charges. The excuse usually touted is that the two languages tested at Grade 7- Shona and Ndebele – are not the languages of choice. They are not spoken at home by the pupils, who typically have well-to-do parents who prefer to speak in English, the status language of the middle classes.

When calculating the pass rate, a pupil is considered to have passed if he or she achieves at least six units or better in all four subjects, and their aggregate mark is 24 units and below. One unit is awarded for an excellent mark, with nine units used to indicate a dismal mark.

Bulawayo Provincial Education Officer, Dan Moyo, said he was impressed by the results although there was room for improvement.
“We’re quite impressed with the Grade 7 results for this year because they show an increase in the number of pupils who passed their examinations,” said Moyo.
The province recorded an improvement in the pass rate from 80 percent pass rate in 2013 to 85 percent recorded in last year’s examinations.
A total of 13,711 pupils sat for the Grade Seven examinations last year.
He said the ministry was engaging the worst performing schools to understand why they were failing to produce good results.
“I’ve been meeting the school heads to try and understand some of the challenges they’re facing regarding their schools’ performances,” said Moyo.

He said some of the worst performing schools were facing challenges that include staff accommodation shortages, forcing some teachers to cover distances of about 25km daily.
“Some of the pupils in these schools are in farming communities. They’re loaded with too much work before and after school and this affects their performances,” said Moyo.
The 2014 national average pass rate was 38,13 percent up from 32,20 percent in 2013.
Zimsec director Esau Nhandara said: “There was a significant improvement in the performance of candidates this year across all subjects. The trend is that female candidates perform better than male candidates across all subjects.” The Chronicle

Wife swapping to be Legalised

January 27, 2015
Namibia parly wants to legalise wife swapping January 28, 2015 International News Wife swapping among Namibia’s nomadic tribes has been practised for generations but a legislator’s call to enshrine it in law has stirred debate about women’s rights and tradition in modern society.

The practice is more of a gentlemen’s agreement where friends can have sex with each others’ wives with no strings attached. The wives have little say in the matter, according to those who denounce the custom as both abusive and risky in a country with one of the world’s highest HIV/Aids rates. But the Ovahimba and Ovazemba tribes, based mainly in the country’s arid north, contend their age-old custom strengthens friendships and prevents promiscuity. “It’s a culture that gives us unity and friendship,” said Kazeongere Tjeundo, a lawmaker and deputy president of the opposition Democratic Turnhalle Alliance of Namibia. “It’s up to you to choose [among] your mates who you like the most … to allow him to sleep with your wife,” said Tjeundo, a member of the Ovahimba ethnic group. Concerned that HIV/Aids could be used as an excuse to stop the ancient tradition, he and others are suggesting regulations be adopted to ensure “good practice”. Tjeundo said he plans to propose a wife-swapping law, following a November legislative poll when he is due for reelection. Known as “okujepisa omukazendu” – which loosely means “offering a wife to a guest” – the practice is little known outside these reclusive communities, whose population is estimated at 86,000. - AFP

Makandiwa miracle: Mutare boy cured

January 27, 2015

Ngoni Dapira
AFTER two failed surgical operations and exhausting all medical options that money could buy to cure his perthes disease, 18-year-old Norman Sithole was miraculously healed by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa on July 13 during a special healing service at the United Family Interdenominational Church in Mutare.

The Weekender got word of the news after last Sunday’s UFIC service when an over-elated Norman gave a touching testimony about his 10-year perthes disease (a childhood disorder that affects the hip joints) condition and right hip dislocation handicap and how Prophet Makandiwa healed him. While most miracles and prophecies by Zimbabwe’s famous prophets, Makandiwa, Uerbet Angel and others, have become a cesspool of controversial debate, The Weekender on Monday decided to do a follow-up on the Norman Sithole miracle.

Norman was featured in The Manica Post edition of December 31, 2005-January 5, 2006 with his mother Abigail Sithole, appealing for financial assistance for an expensive surgical operation to cure Norman’s perthes disease. In an interview with Norman on Monday, he said he dislocated his right hip in 2004 when he was 10 years old and doing Grade 3.

He fell down a slope on his way from Ndima Primary School in Rusitu on one rainy day.

He said he did not feel the pain instantly but felt it three days later. He went to Ndima Clinic and was referred to Chipinge District Hospital where he was further referred to Mutare Provincial Hospital.

It was at Mutare Provincial that he learnt he had perthes disease and that his right hip had dislocated. From that day his life changed from being a “normal” boy to being handicapped.

Between 2004 and 2007, Norman moved from hospital to hospital and from one doctor to another, but to no avail, as his parents tried to get him cured. “At one point I spent six months at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare. 2004 to 2006 was really a difficult time for me as my parents went all out to try and get me walking properly again. I was in and out of school a lot.

“We tried everything, but it all failed. Different orthopaedic surgeons gave different expert advice and would say I could only be cured by surgery, but the two surgical operations done were unsuccessful,” said Norman. Norman’s mother, Abigail, a vendor at Sakubva 2 High School, said she was in high spirits after the miracle. “I tell you this handicap that my son had was eating me alive each day. I have three children and he is the only son. So, I had many expectations from him as the only son.

“To be honest I had lost all hope after the surgical operations failed. We have endured so much as a family.

Norman’s father, James, passed away in 2006 while I was in Harare at Parirenyatwa Hospital with Norman.

“I only went to bury James and sadly was not around in his last days as he was also ill and hospitalised in Chipinge.

“We sold our car and grinding mills to cater for the medical expenses for Norman and his father, which is why we ended up visiting The Manica Post to appeal for financial assistance from well-wishers for Norman’s second operation, which cost a lot then, about 163,5 million Zimbabwean dollars, roughly over US$2 000 present-day,” said Abigail.

At St Joseph’s High School where Norman did his high school up to Ordinary level last year, teachers and headmaster confirmed his handicap.

His building teacher, Mr Goodwell Bvekerwa, said he knew Norman as a cheerful handicapped student since Form One up to Form Four last year.

“I saw Norman last Wednesday here at school where he was visiting a friend and called him after I noticed that he was now walking properly without a limp.

“He narrated how Prophet Makandiwa healed him and I could not believe it,” said Mr Bvekerwa.

The headmaster, Mr Vitalis Takarinda, said he was not sure whether it was a Prophet Makandiwa miracle or not, but all he knew was that Norman was handicapped throughout his four years at St Joseph’s High School. First Class Academy director Mr Stephen Mutsongodza, where Norman sat four subjects in June, confirmed that Norman was handicapped and was shocked to hear he had been healed.

Norman said he started attending UFIC in August last year after he was invited by their neighbour, Mrs Nhachi. Mrs Nhachi told him Prophet Makandiwa had healed a lot of disabled people and maybe he would heal him too. “I started going to UFIC in August last year and left my family church United Methodist.

“To be honest, I went to Judgement Night 2 in Harare in April with so much hope. My mother even escorted me hoping as well for a miracle, but nothing happened.

“I did not lose faith and continued attending church services at UFIC. On July 13 during the service we were told to pray against family curses that were blocking our success.

“Our pastor said the healing spirit of Prophet Makandiwa was in the midst and told us to pray against family curses from both the maternal and paternal sides.

“My friend Tanaka started manifesting and later joined him. I only woke up towards the end of the service and could not believe it when I stood up and walked without a limp.

“I started running praising the Lord and the pastor called me in front to give my testimony,” said Norman. An official comment could not be attained from Pastor Jacob Tembo by time of going to press. However, UFIC members said in their church they believe the anointing of Prophet Makandiwa works through his ministers, which is why all followers can be healed wherever they are, whether in Mutare, Gweru or Bulawayo.
