NOT ENOUGH RAIN TO END WATER PROBLEMS!

This was as inclement weather and hail left a trail of damage in parts of Limpopo, Pretoria and the East Rand yesterday.
A video has also emerged of a car apparently trapped in a heavy downpour in Pretoria West.
South African Weather Service forecaster Elisabeth Webster said there was a good chance of showers and thundershowers with the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the three provinces for the rest of the week.
"The rain will help alleviate the heat and there will be cooler temperatures," she said.
Parts of the country, including Gauteng, experienced a heatwave last week with temperatures in some areas exceeding 40°C.
North West, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga have been declared disaster areas. Some areas in Gauteng experienced water shortages.
Webster said Springs on the East Rand experienced the highest rainfall during Monday's downpour with 44,6ml. Pretoria had 23,4ml and the OR Tambo International Airport 15,6ml.
While there was hail in parts of Limpopo, the province did not experience significant rainfall.
Johannesburg environment and infrastructure mayoral committee member Matshidiso Mfikoe told News24 while the rain could bring some relief, it would not be enough to fundamentally shift the city's situation where demand often exceeded supply.

"It will relieve us somehow, but we still need to save."
Large hailstones, some almost the size of tennis balls, and the stormy weather wreaked havoc in Limpopo and the East Rand on Monday.
In Brakpan, at least eight cars were reportedly trapped under the fallen roof of a Caltex station.
Netcare 911 said no-one was injured in the incident.

Six family members were killed when a Nissan truck they were travelling in sideswiped a South Africa-registered Audi sedan at Mavise Turn-off along the Harare-Masvingo Highway near Mvuma on Saturday afternoon. Chirumhanzu Rural District Council employee, Charles Nyika, died on the spot, while his wife, grandchild and three children died on admission at Mvuma Hospital.

The Audi, which was headed for Harare, had two people on board when the accident occurred. The two are believed to be husband and wife and they sustained minor injuries. Eyewitnesses said Nyika, who was driving a council vehicle coming from his rural home, turned right into the highway in front of the Audi vehicle, resulting in a sides-wipe.

“Nyika was driving a council pick-up truck and was coming from his rural home in Nyikavanhu area in Chirumhanzu when he encroached into the left lane while attempting to turn right in front of an oncoming vehicle. The vehicles sideswiped and both cars veered off the road and overturned.

Nyika died on the spot, while his wife, three children and his grandchild died at the hospital,” said an eyewitness who preferred anonymity. Chirumhanzu District Council Chief Executive Officer Mr Lovemore Chatikobo confirmed the death of Nyika, saying he was a humble and dedicated man.

“We are deeply saddened by Nyika’s death. He was working here as a driver and we have leant with great shock of his untimely death. “He was passionate about his work and very obedient. He was involved in an accident along Harare-Masvingo Highway. He was laid to rest today (yesterday) in Ward 15 in Nyikavanhu area,” he said.

Meanwhile, there was drama at Nyika’s funeral when a woman believed to be his aunt, urinated on his grave soon after burial. A workmate who attended the funeral said the woman started acting strangely soon after the burial and went on to urinate on Nyika’s grave. “The woman caused a stir at the funeral when she started urinating on Nyika’s grave while everyone was looking. She was quickly whisked away by her relatives. We suspect that it was a ritual meant to bring back Nyika’s spirit to take revenge on the culprits,” said the workmate who refused to be named.

Chirumhanzu Councillor Tremendous Musara, who also attended the funeral, confirmed the incident but refused to shed more light. “I was there and I saw the woman urinating on the grave. “That is not something that I should be commenting on. I advise you to get hold of any of Nyika’s relatives for more information,” he said. Efforts to get a comment from police were futile as National Police Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi’s phone went unanswered.

Crimes of Xenophobia, South Legal Obligation

By Dr Clarence (Human rights Defender)
The Zulu Kings Speech is all evidence we ever need in court to make this so called Xenophobia a genocide, Zulu Kings speech shows intent ant intent is what makes it Genocide. Of cause its a xenophobia but genocides occurred during the Xenophobia.
Xenophobia is when doors are opened and foreigners are driven out, Genocide is when doors are closed and foreigners are Killed. People are afraid of using the term "genocide" but genocide occurs far often than people think. Finally, it is frequently said that the word genocide is avoided because invoking it would create a legal obligation to act to prevent or stop it by the location state.

Dec 10, 1998, South Africa signed and ratified or acceded to the international agreement of The
Genocide Convention treaties to prevent and punish actions of genocide in war and in peacetime. Zulu King must be punished.

Someone lost a Parent, source of livelihood school fees, Who will educate and feed the Victims Children.South Africa should compensate, Children of Xenophobia victims should be given Child Support by South Africa, Their school fees should be paid by south Africa until they don't wanna school anymore, on top of that the salaries of the victim should be paid by South Africa to their husbands, Wives and Children, inclusive of promotions probabilities and allowances,
South Africa Should compensate all funeral Expenses, Pay for damages like emotional stress, artificial disaster, life long distress, Someone will forever be disturbed by the horrific images of a video of their mother, father, child relative being killed on a video they unknowingly stumbled upon on whats-app.South Africa should pay.

Those who where injured and disabled during this Xenophobic Genocide should be compesated too.

Africa Union Should address this immediately, if not i will personally sue South Africa, Xenophobia is the last Stage of Human Rights abuse, The Zulu King should be Tried for inciting violence, he argues he has been misquote, come on, his speech is all over the web, is that a misquote, this Zulu guy thinks he can fool us like we are his Kids.

No international relations is more important that a human life, Investors should also be compensated, Zimbabweans and other Africans who own shops in South Africa should be compensated their investments and opportunity costs, “An economy characterized by violence and lawlessness is not good for investment.

Most of the foreigners being attacked own spaza shops and have been forced to flee with whatever they can take with them. People who had similar businesses can now trade with less competition.

Xenophobia latest Victim: Zim woman decapitated

Xenophobia latest Victim: Zim woman decapitated
Lovemore Mataire Senior Reporter
A Zimbabwean woman, Mrs Naume Garusa (41), has become the latest victim of horrific xenophobic attacks after her body was found with her head decapitated following violent clashes in the Houghton suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, last Thursday.

Speaking at her funeral wake at a relative’s home in Mufakose, Harare, her son Brain Garusa, who is a student at the University of Zimbabwe, said he was shocked to receive reports of his mother’s death just two days after talking to her on her mobile phone.

“I am still in a state of shock because just a few days before her disappearance I had spoken to her. She had promised to send some money the following day.
“I asked her about the xenophobic attacks and she said the situation was tense but calm,” said Brian.

Mr Emmanuel Mhondiwa, who is brother to the deceased, said the family was devastated with the manner in which Mrs Garusa lost her life after working in South Africa for more than 12 years.

“She was the sole breadwinner to her children following the death of her husband and she had done so well as to be able to send one of them to university. When we started seeing images of xenophobic attacks on television we never imagined that our own flesh and blood could soon be a victim,” said Mr Mhondiwa.

He said his sister was reported missing on Thursday after some xenophobic disturbances in Johannesburg and the following day her body was found by police in a nearby bushy area with her head decapitated. Mr Mhondiwa said relatives in South Africa confirmed that his sister had been attacked by marauding xenophobic elements who targeted her as she came from her workplace.

“She has been working in South Africa since 2002 and her papers, including a work permit, were in order. We just don’t understand how fellow Africans could do this to another human being. We urge our Government to urgently deal with this matter as most deaths are not being reported,” Mr Mhondiwa said.

University of Zimbabwe Student Executive Council secretary-general Valentine Masaiti, who was part of a large contingent of students who visited the Mhondiwa family in Mufakose to commiserate with their fellow student, appealed to Government to liaise with the South African government to ensure that peace prevailed and reduce the loss lives. Mr Mhondiwa said Mrs Garusa’s body is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe tomorrow and will be buried in Chikombedzi, Chiredzi, on Wednesday.Herald

400 Zimbabweans die in South Africa every month

March 10, 2015
SOUTH AFRICA – An estimated 400 bodies of dead Zimbabweans are repatriated into the country every month from South Africa, with most of the deaths being a result of murder, the Financial Gazette can report.
Horror stories are told of Zimbabweans dying in gruesome deaths in neighbouring South Africa, a situation government said was a cause for concern.
Although Zimbabweans also die in many parts of the Diaspora, their deaths south of the Limpopo River are way more than in other countries.
Last month, a Zimbabwean woman from Bikita was shot and killed after being caught in a crossfire as armed robbers led a heist at a Standard Bank branch in Musina.
Deaths by knife stabbings and shootings are routinely reported, particularly of Zimbabweans staying in South African townships.
In March last year, 23 Zimbabweans died at a disused South African mine after inhaling high levels of carbon monoxide underground.
HIV-related deaths are also quite common as are suicides (jumping off high rise buildings), shootings and other causes.
There are also a few murders by burning, particularly in xenophobic inflamed incidences.
Although the Zimbabwean government could not provide an overall figure of repatriated bodies, sources said Beitbridge, which is the largest border into Zimbabwe from South Africa, processed the repatriation of 100 bodies a week, which translates to 400 a month.
Funeral parlours across the country confirmed handling the repatriation and burials of about 400 Zimbabweans who are dying in South Africa every month.

Kings and Queens funeral parlour, headquartered in Bulawayo, said they were handling the repatriation of at least 120 bodies monthly, at an average of 30 bodies per week through the Beitbridge border post.
Reuben Phiri, chief executive of Kings and Queens, said the bulk of its clientele were Zimbabweans, although they now provided services to Mozambican and Nigerian nationals.
“The bulk of the corpses which we handle according to distribution; nearly 70 percent are going to the Mashonaland provinces, while the rest are destined for the Matabeleland provinces,” said Phiri.
Auxillia Dzenga, the public relations and marketing manager at Moonlight Funeral Services head office in Harare said most of the repatriations they handled were from South Africa, with murder topping the list for the cause of death.
“I would say on a weekly basis we receive an average of five bodies and monthly about plus or minus 20 cases. The causes may vary, but the biggest number is murder,” Dzenga said in an e-mailed response to questions.
Francis Mabika, the assistant regional immigration officer, said official statistics of corpses being repatriated into the country were tabulated by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA). The Financial Gazette was, however, unable to verify the figures with ZIMRA at the time of going to press.
But Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi admitted that violence and instability in South Africa was a cause for concern, as many Zimbabweans were being killed in the neighbouring country.
“It’s just not Zimbabweans only who are being killed, but many other nationalities as well,” said Mohadi. The Home Affairs Ministry, Mohadi said, did not have any records of the deaths.
“I don’t have numbers of the repatriations we receive in the country, but as you well know that the incidents of crime are too high in South Africa. In South Africa when it comes to things like these (crime and violence) they are common place…and are always high, but we unfortunately do not have documented figures,” he said.
It is estimated that between two to three million Zimbabweans live in South Africa.
It costs anything between R10 000 (US$857) and R23 000 (US$1 973) to repatriate a corpse back to the country from South Africa.
Hard pressed relatives of the deceased loved ones normally choose the cheapest option to cut down on costs.
The US$857 package which includes a coffin and basic transport to accompany the corpse by relatives is the most preferred.
South Africa with its allure of flashy cars and the promise of a better life has been the destination of many locals seeking a better life.
With the xenophobic tensions persistently rising up in South Africa and tougher immigration laws in place, political observers say engagement by authorities in Pretoria with their counterparts in Zimbabwe is the best way to avoid a bloodbath ensuing, from which Zimbabweans are likely to bear the biggest brunt of. Financial Gazette

Cholera outbreak in Mudzi

March 04, 2015
Six cases of cholera have been confirmed in Mudzi and Chiredzi, while another case is being suspected in Chirundu.

Of the six cases, five were recorded in Mudzi, a border area near Mozambique, where the disease has killed at least 41 people so far.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa called on the nation to be vigilant to prevent the spread of the disease.

Minister Cde Parirenyatwa said cholera thrives on poor sanitation hence the need for Zimbabweans to improve hygiene in their day to day lives.

“Rain season is with us Zimbabweans have to improve on their sanitation and cholera is also being passed thru boarders. Areas that are affected are Mudzi, Chirundu and Chipinge," said Dr Parirenyatwa.

Cholera cases surface mostly during the rainy season due to poor sanitation and dirty wet conditions.

The worst cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe was recorded in 2008 when an outbreak in Harare’s Budiriro left hundreds of people dead.

Zesa Cancelled

March 03, 2015

Felex Share Senior Reporter
The State Procurement Board has officially cancelled the Zesa Holdings tender for smart meters which had been inflated by former Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire with the intention of getting kickbacks from potential bidders.
The 300 000 smart meter tender was cancelled following a request by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company which argued that there were no such potential sites countrywide in need of those units.
Cde Mavhaire and his erstwhile deputy Cde Munacho Mutezo had forced Zesa officials to tender for such a bloated figure, yet the pair was advised that the power utility needed only 60 000 meters.
ZETDC managing director Engineer Julian Chinembiri yesterday confirmed the cancellation of the $120 million tender, saying another one would be floated soon.
“The tender has officially been cancelled and the State Procurement Board has written informing us of the cancellation of the tender,” he said. “We are now going to have another one indicating the exact number we want, which is in the range of 60 000.”
Minister Mavhaire
Cdes Mavhaire and Mutezo allegedly wanted more smart meters so they could get more money through kickbacks, with each bidder expected to pay a certain amount per meter to oil their hands.
Eng Chinembiri said the power utility would begin with a pilot project of 10 000 smart meters, a move which initially had been quashed by the two, who described it as a waste of time.
“We are preparing the papers and by the end of this week we would have submitted them to the SPB for them to invite potential bidders for the pilot project,” he said.
“Suppliers should have their funding and on the pilot project, we need to have four or five suppliers, supplying different types of meters. This is for us to test inter-operability. We are also going to test the communication part of the meters, that is they are going to be installed in different parts of the country while we will be monitoring them in Harare.”
Expectations are that the smart metering technology, which reports to the centre any meter by-passing, would curb power theft and increase revenue generation as compared to pre-paid meters.
Eng Chinembiri said while the pilot project would be under way, the power utility would be carrying out an audit to establish the exact number of properties in need of smart units.
“We have to see how many large power users we have countrywide, but we are working with about 60 000,” he said. “These are customers who use above 100 amps.”
More than 300 companies had already bought tender documents on the initial tender.
Zesa has been losing more than $10 million in revenue every month due to defects which are on the pre-paid meters supplied by ZTE from China, Nyamazela of South Africa and local firms Finmark and Solahart. As a stop gap measure, Zesa is now mounting prepaid meters on poles instead of houses to curb tampering and power theft.
More than 540 000 units of pre-paid meters have been installed since August 2012.
