Harare floods as Lightning strikes and kill 7 people

Seven people were yesterday struck and killed by a bolt of lightning at Mugwinyi village in Chief Mazungunye area in Bikita.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 1630 hrs at Marian Nebvuma's homestead.

Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident, adding that all the deceased were in two separate thatched huts when the lightning bolt struck.

The bodies of the deceased were ferried to Silveira Mission mortuary awaiting burial.

The names of the seven deceased are Marian Nebvuma (32), Fadzai Chenjerai (11), Gloria Chenjerai (5), Odrey Masunda (4), Esther Muchakagara (5) and Crywind Mugwinyi (6) and Claudia Mugwinyi (4).

Meanwhile, the joint operations command team in Harare toured several places around the capital to assess the trail of destruction caused by the recent heavy rains.

Several houses in Marbelreign, Ashdown Park, Westlea and Tynwald were affected by the rising water levels following the heavy rains.
