Traders enjoy brisk business in Vic Falls

The 29th edition of the 21st February Movement celebrations held in Victoria Falls at the weekend attracted tourists from all over the world. At least 20 000 local delegates graced the occasion, while tourists from across the globe thronged the resort town to ensure their visits coincided with the birthday bash.
Director of This and That Safaris and Tours Mr Thembinkosi Dube said his company got many foreign tourists who scheduled their visits to coincide with the 21st February Movement celebrations.
“The bash attracted many people and we also got foreign tourists who came mainly for the birthday celebrations, although they remained here after the event for their normal tour,” he said.
Chairperson of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe for the Victoria Falls chapter and a manager at Elephant Hills Resort, Mr Trythings Mutyandasvika said all hotels and lodges in the town were fully booked and that the transport industry had been busy from February 26 to 28.
“We had three days of brisk business around the town, he said. On February 27 and 28, all hotels and lodges in the town were fully booked. Safari and tour operators and other service providers also enjoyed the great event that attracted scores of people from all over the country and beyond our borders.”
Mr Mutyandasvika said February was normally a quiet month in terms of business in the resort town, but the celebrations had brought some life to Victoria Falls.
Umguza National Assembly member Cde Obert Mpofu said hosting of the event was a blessing for Matabeleland North province.
“Apart from being a very successful occasion, it has actually raised the flag not only of Victoria Falls, but for the province at large,” he said.
