Man loses wife and 3 children in horror Zupco accident that killed 26 people

The tragic accident that killed 26 people on Sunday along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway, almost wiped out an entire family.

It remains a nightmare for the Chinyama clan from Mutoko after four members of the same family died in the accident.

Vengai Chinyama lost his wife, Nyaradzo Chihowa and three children, a son Tafadzwa (12) and twins Tanaka and Tashinga.

He now has to take care of a 2-year-old son, Tawananyasha who survived the accident and was discharged from hospital this Tuesday.

In the middle of such adversity and surrounded by almost total darkness, many of the fallible human race will crack, but Chinyama still has the strength to narrate events of the fateful Sunday.

"I tried in vain to convince my wife not to embark on the journey. However, it is God's will and I am thankful that my other son, Tawananyasha is still alive," said Chinyama.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased say government should expedite the process of assisting them after the accident was declared a state of disaster.

Director of the Civil Protection Unit (CPU), Madzudzo Pawadyira said all efforts are being made to ensure the process is quickened.

"Realising the pressure at Parirenyatwa hospital, we ensured that the bodies of those involved in the accident we processed quickly so that they would be no pressure on the mortuary," he said.
