Prophet makes Church member eat live snake

July 20, 2015
PRETORIA – Controversial Soshanguve “prophet” Penuel Mnguni has been arrested for making his congregants eat a live snake during a church service.

The head of the End Times Disciples Ministries was thus a no-show at his church’s Sunday service this weekend, where he had invited members of the media of witness how he performed “miracles”.

Police officers spent the entire day on Friday looking for him after charges had been laid against him by the SPCA, but could not locate him.

However, Mnguni was eventually arrested on Saturday, said Captain Rheineth Motlana, a spokesman for the police.

He spent the weekend in the Ga-Rankuwa police cells and will be appearing in the local magistrate’s court on Monday to face charges of cruelty to animals.

Inspector Andrew Kekana, of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), said that after investigations, the organisation decided to lay charges against the prophet.

The charges relates to possession of indigenous protected snakes and cruelty to animals. “We believe it is our duty in instances where animal rights have been violated to prosecute those responsible for such violation,” said Kekana.

Mnguni, 27, made news headlines last week and was trending on social media platforms after he posted photos of numerous services in which he made his congregants strip naked, eat clothes, hair and even rode some of them like horses.

The latest of his antics which finally landed him in hot water with animal rights organisations was that of making members of his congregation eat a live snake.

Photos illustrating this were also posted on his Facebook page, with congregants saying the snake tasted like chocolate.

Arno Naude, of the Snake Bite Assist and Transvaal Herpetological Association, said they were happy that something had been done to stop the “heinous crimes committed by the pastor”.

Naude said: “We were dismayed at the sheer arrogance displayed by the pastor by being able to con people into killing a live snake in such an inhumane way.

“The capturing, selling and certainly killing of indigenous snakes is illegal and we would like to make sure that he is stopped in his tracks.

“We spend our whole lives trying to capture and remove the snakes from people’s homes and set them free in a safe environment. Can you imagine how it would be to eat the snake bit by bit while it is alive?”

Despite Mnguni’s absence, Sunday’s service continued. Before his arrest, he had invited all who wanted to see the miracles, but ushers at the entrance of the church did not want members of the media to take photos of the service.

Another pastor, who refused to speak to the media, told congregants not to fear what was happening to them as other people did not understand the work of God.

“They can’t stop the work of God by coming forth with claims that what the prophet was doing was cruelty to animals. We are simply doing the work of God.” Pretoria News

Chi-Town residents express hospital privatisation fears

February 03, 2015
CHITUNGWIZA Central Hospital management last Thursday met representatives of the Chitungwiza Residents’ Trust (Chitrest) and assured them that the privatisation of some of the hospital’s critical services would not lead to a spike in costs.
PHILLIP CHIDAVAENZI
SENIOR REPORTER
The meeting, which was attended by the hospital’s chief executive officer Obadiah Moyo, followed residents’ fears that the privatisation programme would push the cost of health services beyond the reach of many.
“This meeting was called at the behest of the hospital management after Chitrest had raised concern on the effects of privatisation of health facilities at the medical institution after critical departments, including radiology, laboratory, pharmacy and mortuary, had been surrendered to partner institutions,” Chitrest programmes director Marvellous Kumalo said.
Moyo assured the residents that as a government hospital, they were going to ensure that their services remained accessible and affordable.
“Our focus as a government hospital is on volume and quality rather than profit margins,” Moyo said.
“Residents should not panic. The hospital will not commercialise health fees. We have brought in new stakeholders to improve health service delivery and not to make profits. This process that we have engaged on will actually lead to improved health service delivery.”
The health institution’s catchment area includes Mashonaland East province and Chitungwiza urban.

Black parents give birth to white baby

January 30, 2015
When Angela Ihegboro first saw her newborn daughter, she was “speechless.”
Black parents give birth to white baby
“She’s a miracle baby,” the 35-year-old mother said yesterday. “But still, what on Earth happened here?”
What happened is that baby Nmachi is a blond, blue-eyed white baby born to two black Nigerian immigrant parents at a London hospital.
“The first thing I said was, ‘What the flip?’ ” said the father, Ben Ihegboro. “We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages — not saying anything.”
He quickly sought to dispel any speculation.
“Of course she is mine. My wife is true to me,” the 44-year-old customer service adviser said. “Even if she hadn’t been, the baby still wouldn’t look like that.”
Genetics experts don’t believe in miracles, but they didn’t have any simple answers to the mystery of baby Nmachi. Instead, they offered three theories:
  • She’s the result of a gene mutation unique to her. If that is the case, Nmachi would pass the gene to her children — and they, too, would likely be white.
  • She’s the product of long-dormant white genes, passed on to her by her parents, that might have been carried by their predecessors for generations without surfacing until now.
  • While doctors have said Nmachi is not an outright albino, or lacking in all pigment, they added that the child may have some kind of mutated version of the genetic condition — and that her skin could darken over time.

Another, 2 Policeman rape Prisoner without protection

January 29, 2015
Pamela Shumba Senior Reporter
TWO police officers based at Cowdray Park police base have been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old theft suspect.

Constable Norman Njaya was arrested on Sunday, while his colleauge Constable Constantine Musetwa was arrested on the following day after they allegedly took turns to rape the suspect, who was being accused of stealing some clothes and money from a Good Samaritan who had offered her accommodation in December last year.

Sources told The Chronicle yesterday that the Good Samaritan only identified as Sipho apprehended the suspect on Sunday and ordered her to remove her panties and shoes before surrendering her to the police.

Njaya is alleged to have later asked the suspect whether it was true that she was not wearing panties.

“The suspect confirmed and Njaya took her to an empty room close to the charge office and demanded to see for himself. She complied and Njaya grabbed her by the waist and raped her once without using protection while Musetwa was on guard,” she said.

“Njaya ordered the suspect to go and bath in a toilet at the police base. After bathing, Musetwa took her back to the room and raped her once without protection before releasing her.”

Sipho yesterday told The Chronicle that when she left the suspect one of the police officers told her that he would rape the suspect and she thought it was a joke.

She added that when she came back, she only found one police officer while his colleague and the suspect were not there.

“I asked him where the two had gone and he told me that the girl had escaped. While I was still interrogating the police officer, his colleague appeared with his buttons out of order. He also told me that the girl had escaped. I immediately sensed that there was something wrong and I told them I didn’t understand why they would let go of a suspect, whom they had actually failed to arrest,” she said.

She added that the suspect appeared later in the company of four police officers from Luveve Police Station.

“I asked what was going on and the girl revealed that she had been raped by the two accused. She said they took turns to rape her without using protection before she ran away and boarded a kombi.

“A police officer noticed that she was crying and identified himself before asking her what had transpired. She told him what had happened and he took her to Luveve Police Station where she made a report,” said Sipho. Njaya, she added, was immediately arrested, while Musetwa was arrested yesterday. The suspect was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment, while Nyaya and Musetwa are detained at Luveve Police Station.

Mutodi acquitted of $500 000 fraud case

January 29, 2015
PROPERTY developer-cum-musician Energy Mutodi, who had been on trial for allegedly swindling 16 000 civil servants of over $500 000 in a housing scheme run by his company, was on Thursday acquitted by Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya, who ruled that the matter was not criminal, but purely civil.
CHARLES LAITON
SENIOR COURT REPORTER

Through his lawyer Charles Chinyama, Mutodi had applied for discharge at the close of the State case, arguing that the National Prosecuting Authority had erred in criminalising what ought to have been a civil case according to the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
In his submission, Chinyama said special notice should be given to the fact that the offences were allegedly committed before the new Constitution came into play.
Chinyama said in terms of Section 49 (2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, failure to fulfil a contractual obligation cannot lead to the detention or imprisonment of a person.

Mutodi was being jointly charged alongside his firm, National Housing and Development Trust, and one of the firm’s trustees Boniface Chikono. Newsday

Zanu PF youths boo Mujuru ally

January 29, 2015
SEKE MP Phineas Chihota was on Tuesday booed by a group of rowdy Zanu PF youths from Mashonaland East province who called for his expulsion from the party for allegedly working in cahoots with ousted former Vice-President Joice Mujuru to topple President Robert Mugabe.
OWN CORRESPONDENT
The incident happened at Dema business centre in the presence of Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Joel Biggie Matiza.
The dozen-plus youths waved anti-Chihota placards and accused him of corruption and fanning factionalism.
Some of the placards read: Chihota haudi Mugabe, How far neCDF? and Pasi naChihota.
Both Chihota and Matiza did not respond and remained seated at the high table when one of the youths advanced to the legislator and accused him of making unilateral decisions in the constituency. Chihota, who was Zanu PF provincial secretary for administration in the dissolved Ray Kaukonde-led executive, could not be reached for comment after Tuesday’s drama.

Dr Clarence is one of Zims finest Humble talents to inspire other youths into producing, Dr Clarence mentored the likes of DJ Mbale, T Man, DJ Sude, Cure Massive amoung many, also helped the Likes of Dadza D, Shinsoman, Killer T and Guspy Warrior in their grassroots, I am not trying to boast by am challenging all established zim talent to mentor others and not compete with new talent, People where asking me how i feel about terminator calling himself the Dancehall Specialist, and i reply today, He is one of my favourite artist at the moment and ive no problem with him along with Celscious and Kina, these guys will go places,

Below is a Medly Video of Voice riddim Shot by Dr Clarence, produced by T Man, who deserves at least a nomination at the ZimDancehall Awards

What have i achieved as an artist apart from a few worthless haters, I dont own a benz, i own a 6 roomed house in Kuwadzana, a fleet of Taxis branded Dr Clarence, a residential stand in Manyame park wich i am currently selling to boost my investments, I urge the youths to work with me instead of wanting to compete with me, I am not some school failure, i can go and work in the office anytime, but i like the money um getting now, enough to buy myself haters, My biggest horse has been Stunner, but now he has been trying to prove a point for the past 5 years, 2015 um pulling stunner back into his kraal, ive kept a few friends around whose loyalty um now in doubt of,

2014 saw me reestablishing myself into film,i didnt start now but way back before 2008 when i was the editor for award winning top class soap Estate Blues, working together with Admire Maramba. Video production is too easy for me,thats why i never shoot beyond 5 Shots a video, you are free to count clips in any of my produced videos, Ive never shot a music video in more than 30minutes, if you are in doubt then hire me, I shoot you today, you have your video the same day,I use the smallest camera, canon SX 130

Sometimes i even shoot with an I Phone, i use my self programed software, wich is a hybrid of Adobe After Effects and Sony HD,

Making beats has become to easy for me so i challenged myself to learn to play every instrument there is in this planet, the Joy of learning new things didnt last long after i taught myself the guitar in one week, all the other instruments that followed became maters of a few minutes, I challenge the media to bring me any instrument and i will play it

When recording Audios i dont use a Studio Condenser mic, Thats why my vocals have clarity, Funny isnt it?

Dynamic microphones are more robust than condensers. and Dynamic microphones can handle higher sound pressure levels than condenser microphones. especially these Zimmdancehall yelling type of vocals, n my entire carrier i have never used Headphones they close the brain and music loses its aquistic feel.

People only buy condensers as a result of the Veblen effect.

Veblen effect: when people buy expensive stuff when they could have cheaper versions. In audio, the Veblen effect exists for users who are trying to achieve prestige by spending more money than they should. However, when audio engineers consider their budgets and requirements, most will buy the product that fulfills their needs in the most cost-effective manner possible.

and finally I don’t need condensers because my mixing is perfect!

This March 2014 i am opening a Radio Station, with or without a government license.

I Just thank The Lord Jesus for granting me any opportunity,  which many never had the Chance to, everyone is talented we Just have to work a little harder and Keep positive no mater what people say, if they say the have never seen anything like that just tell them when the plane was invented people then had never seen anything like that, you are yourself there is not another you,

Brenda said they had agreed to have se*ual
Intercourse in the vehicle as Dennis had reassured her that the car belonged to his friend. "I was at Leisure Sports Bar when this man approached me and I told him that short-time (of s*x) ndinoita US$5 upon which he negotiated and we agreed on US$3; handina kuramba nekuti iJanuary disease ka iyi," she said, bursting into laughter. Brenda said she has two children who need to be taken care of as she was struggling to make ends meet. "Ah haaa aya mashura chaiwo. Masango matema-terra chaiwo regai ndibve ndaenda kumba kunorara. "Asi ndofunga kumusha kwaitika mashura chaiwo," she said. Macheso fumes on Prophet Magaya story

January 28, 2015
Sungura King Alick Macheso yesterday poured cold water on the report by The Herald that his quagmires have forced him to seek salvation at Prophet Walter Magaya’s PHD church.

He said there was nothing wrong with going to church and when he does it would be public knowledge.

In a statement on social media, his managers said :”Nyaya iri pakuti Alick Macheso akakokwa kuAlbum launch yaNicholas Zachariah uyo ava kunamata kuPHD kwavaMagaya saGuest Speaker kwava kuzopa comment achiti vaZachariah kuchurch (kwaVaMagaya) kwakuchengetayi saka ndichatouyawo which was just supposed to be a comment but story yabudira kutengesa bepa.

“Muchirungu tingangoti even a greenhorn or an upstart of a Journalist would have understood the implication of that statement especially given that Macheso was speaking at an album launch of an artist who fellowships at PHD. Was he to speak about Zaoga or any other church when Zachariah is a PHD member?

“In the event that Macheso goes to an album launch of an AFM member then gives a similar comment do we say he is AFM bound? “Tinozviziva kuti kwaMacheso ndokumuzinda asi vanhu ngavatsvage mbiri nemari nenzira kwadzo. Photographer ari kudzidzira basa anongotorawo mapikicha ane chekuita naMacheso kuti zviite, muimbi ari kudzedzerekawo muindustry anongoti ndavakukunda Macheso kana kuti ndava pamakwikwi naye kuti awane kunhonga nhonga twumacents. Last but not least, takati bhazi harimiswe kufamba neimbwa dzasabhuku dzinohukura. “If Macheso was desperate and struggling would he even think of recording in his own studio or aingoenda kwevamwe like the others do? Murume chaiye anoita twake.

After all who is the leader of the pack in the local music industry, who commands the biggest crowds at his shows curtain raiser or no curtain raiser? We all know Macheso is the news saka people must report on, nyorai dzakawanda nhema.”

Alick Macheso joined the sungura godfather during his performance at the launch of his 26th album Rumbidzo. He went straight to the bass guitar and joined the vocals on the song Mabvi nemagokora among other songs. Macheso is one of the artistes who came from Madzibaba's ensemble Khiama Boys and he jelled well with the experienced musician.

No Praise at Zimpraise

January 26, 2015

SOMETHING fishy is happening at choral music outfit Zimpraise. The group recently started auditions for new members and one wonders where these new members will fit considering that the outfit already has about 115 members.

Zimpraise

The group has even spiced up the auditions by increasing the audition fees, raising questions how exactly the group is being run.

Zimpraise, which is in its fifth annual talent search, charges thousands of potential singers and instrumentalists, registration fees for auditions. The group announced that it was increasing the registration fee from US$2 charged in 2014 to US$3 this year.

The figure sounds ridiculously low but is quite substantial considering the numbers that turn up for the auditions every year for the past five years.

Add to that money they make from commercial gigs, yet they do not even pay the choir members and the saga begins to stink.

For an organisation that claims to be non-profit-making – it boggles the mind where all that money they get goes to, when a lot of talented young girls and boys are left out because they cannot afford to pay.

Therefore, only people from well-to-do families stand a chance, as landing a position in Zimpraise does not even guarantee a stipend, yet one needs transport, food and clothes to attend rehearsals and shows.

This has led pundits to question the rationale behind the registration fee let alone the increase when prices of most commodities and services (fuel and hotel bookings included) are going down in the country.

Charging registration fees for auditions is tantamount to companies asking for a similar fee to potential employees applying for work in their organisations.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last year scrapped secondary school entrance tests after it discovered that some unscrupulous school heads were using the facility for fund-raising.

Thousands of parents lost their hard-earned cash as school children sat for entrance tests when the school(s) could only accommodate a handful of students much fewer than those who would have turned up.

It is no secret that Zimpraise is a glamorous group that most Zimbabweans want to be a part of and in turn the auditions are bound to attract hundreds if not thousands of people. For instance, of the figure that turned up last year, only 40 individuals were admitted to the group.

If top artistes like Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah charged registration fees for individuals that wish to join their groups, they would easily be raking in mega bucks without breaking a sweat on stage.

Imagine how many people would turn up for a Black Spirits or Orchestra Mberikwazvo audition at Pakare Paye or Aquatic Complex respectively?
Conversely, officials from the choir which is not new to controversy are justifying the fee and increase.

“For the reason that these auditions are entirely our responsibility, each participating member will have to pay an administration fee of US$3, which will help us secure the venue (Holiday Inn) as well as other administrative costs that include the interviewing panel, refreshments, etcetera,” argued the choir’s public relations officer, Tendai Zhou.

But one wonders why an outfit that purports to be a non-profit-making organisation would have to hire an expensive venue for auditions when cheaper and viable options are available.

In fact, being a Christian group they have a number of churches at their disposal that they can use free of charge or for a reasonable fee.

Also, they could use their rehearsal venue(s) for auditions just like Mtukudzi, Macheso and Suluman do.

Zimpraise’s actions seem not to support the gospel that the group has been preaching since being established in 2006.

For a group that purports to promote an all-inclusive approach, it is baffling how they intend to achieve this when most Zimbabweans are finding it difficult to spare a dollar on a daily basis.

“Zimpraise has a mandate to spread the gospel of Christ as we reach out to our communities and to nations at large. We have seen it fit that we engage people who are interested in joining us as we go out into schools, rural areas as we ascertain how we can help the less privileged as well as to share the good news of Christ with them,” argues Zhou.

Prominent music promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza said it was unethical for any music outfit to charge an audition fee for whatever reason.

“It’s immoral and unfair for any group to charge a registration fee for auditions. When an individual approaches a band it means he/she is in search of employment and if that person is good they will add value to a group and in turn increase its fortunes. Potential group members should be tried free of charge even during live shows,” he said.

Last year’s Zimpraise auditions were conducted through WhatsApp voice notes of a one-minute-long voice clip upon paying a registration fee through a mobile money transfer facility.

This year, those in Harare are required to register at their offices while those outside can use the traditional mobile money transfer facility.

Over the years Zimpraise has been involved in a number of controversies.

Founder of the group Joseph Madzivire is alleged to be in the habit of not paying salaries to choir members even for international tours.

The founder has also been accused of being a serial dater of choir members, though he vehemently refutes the allegations.

The selection criterion of touring group members has itself been labelled as “skewed” by disgruntled members of the group.

Two years ago the choir lost one of its key members, Marbel Madondo (sister to the late Jackie Madondo), who left the group with other members and formed a new outfit, Thousand Voices, amid claims of dissatisfaction. SundayMail

The hero, Trymore, claimed that he is no stranger to these daring feats as he has been at it since he was a little boy.
“Residents called me to catch the snake after they saw it in the cabin at a house. I just used my bare hands in catching the snake and this is the seventh snake I have caught and taken to St Mary’s Police Station,” he said.IHarare
