  • -Hit-and-run took place after she walked out of New York Nails beauty store
  • -Staff suspected she was trying to leave without paying, court heard
  • -Video footage shows them trying to hold back her car as she accelerates
  • -Smith pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and got suspended prison term

  • This is the moment a woman knocked three people down with her car after allegedly trying to flee her manicure without paying.
Doreen Smith, 27, was caught on camera colliding with three members of staff outside New York Nails in North Cheam, Surrey, after leaving her £25 appointment in May.
Smith had tried to make a swift exit without paying for the treatment, causing the employees to try and stop her car by force, Croydon Magistrates' Court heard.
  • The Citroën C4 only made it 50 metres into a layby before it was stopped, and police intervened after erroneous reports that the incident was a carjacking.
According to shop staff, Smith had already had already had an eyelash treatment, which she paid for, when she asked for her nails to be done as well.
The court heard that partway through the session, Smith said she did not have enough cash with her. She offered to go to an ATM at a nearby Sainsbury's and withdraw the funds.
  • But Smith did not comply with the request, which caused the staff to try and block her way.
However, Smith accelerated past the trio, leading to a low-speed hit-and-run which a bystander caught on camera.
Magistrates sentenced Smith to a 24-week suspended prison sentence after she pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident.
Jodie Freeman, a constable with Sutton police, said: 'It was fortunate that no one was seriously hurt by this driver's actions which amounted to dangerous driving. These three victims have received the justice they deserve'.DAILYMAIL
