Prophet Makandiwa donates to former school

Prominent preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa on Thursday handed over three classroom blocks, books and a borehole to his former school in Muzarabani.

Muringazuva Primary School received donations worth $200 000  from the United Family International Church (UFIC) founder.

Lazarus Dokora, the Primary and Secondary Education minister, said Makandiwa's gesture was in line with Zimbabwe Agenda for Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) blueprint.

"We would not have been able to do it without the collaborative effort of the benefactor, the parents and the general community of Muringazuva Primary School," he said.

"On behalf of my ministry, I am pleased to inform our benefactor... that we are more than happy to receive his invaluable donation which has come at a time when most schools in the district and more than 2 056 schools country-wide need this kind of intervention," Dokora added.

Herbester Chibwe, the school's headmaster, said the UFIC leader's intervention would go a long way in alleviating problems confronting the school.

"Our enrolment is 620 pupils and before the donations from Makandiwa, six classes were conducting lessons under trees and 75 percent of our pupils were learning while sitting on the floor," he said.

Chibwe heaped praises on the lanky churchman, saying his church had "really performed miracles at the school by building three blocks with six classrooms in a space of 29 days".

The rooms, which were built in August 2014, also created employment for the local community.
"I thank God for Prophet Makandiwa and what he has done for us. He has also electrified the school such that we can now conduct computer lessons," Chibwe said.

A Muzarabani native, Makandiwa said the project was part of his ways to give back to the community.
