Africa Union Army Begins Training

Members of the African Union's new 25,000-strong multinational standby force are gathering to begin field training for the first time.

The exercises in South Africa aim to make sure the force is ready by January to respond to crises across the continent.
The force will be made up of five brigades from Africa's economic blocs.
It is being set up to avoid reliance on the outside world in peacekeeping across the continent.
The logistical base for the African Standby Force (ASF) will be in Douala in Cameroon following a deal signed last week.
The training begins at the South African Army Combat Training Centre in Lohatla with an opening ceremony on Monday.
On Tuesday, 5,000 officers from the military and police officer will be in the field where the ASF will have to intervene in a fictitious country.
The operation, which continues until 5 November, is intended help evaluate how ready the force is to respond to crises and monitor peacekeeping missions.
The exercise was meant to be carried out in Lesotho in 2014 but was delayed because of security issues in the country.
One of the reasons the ASF was established was so African countries did not need to rely on countries outside Africa for conflict resolution.
But BBC Monitoring's Africa security correspondent Tomi Oladipo says the AU will have to ask donors for money as it said in May that it needs $1bn (£700m) to make the force operational.
There are also challenges relating to poor co-ordination and the lack of political will among member states, he says.
The African Union (AU) has become much more willing to intervene in countries over the 15 years, Hallelujah Lulie, an Ethiopian-based researcher for the Institute of Security Studies, told the BBC's Newsday Programme.
Once the force was set up, it would be able go into an AU member country uninvited in cases of genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes, he said.BBC news

This Couple’s “Save The Date” Engagement Photo Is Going Viral

Joshua Rainey, a photographer from Oregon, was hired to shoot engagement photos for a local couple named Stevie Beard and Brady Hogevoll.

This one picture from the shoot has since gone viral – and it’s not difficult to see why.

Photographer Joshua told BuzzFeed News:


I shot the photo on a property owned by Brady’s parents. They have over 150 acres along the Siletz River [in Oregon]. The whole family is very into elk hunting and even hosts Make-A-Wish elk hunts on occasion.
Stevie and Brady came up with the idea and surprised me with it during engagement photos. We worked together to figure out how the image should look and set it up quickly before sunset.
It was rather tough to get the shot though, since Brady could only be upside down for a few minutes. Brady tied his own knots and got himself hooked up to the tractor and then his dad lifted him up slowly.
The snap was posted on the Facebook page of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and it has since been shared almost 30,000 times.

BHUBANESHWAR:  "You're asking for forgiveness, why, because I'm a girl? And you have the right to touch me anytime anywhere you want to?"

These are questions a young woman posed to her alleged molester on an Indigo flight on January 31. He had allegedly tried to grab her several times from between the seats and kept doing so until she jumped up from her seat and started recording him on video on her phone.

She posted the video on youtube where it swiftly went viral, viewed about 1.25 lakh times. It has also been shared many times over on social media sites.

On camera, the man, who the woman has claimed is the chairman of a company in Bhubaneswar, is seen trying to hide his face and mumbling that he is sorry, when she goes on to ask him some more sharp questions - "Did you do it only once? Was it by mistake?"


Describing the incident, she wrote:  'This man on the seat behind mine, put his fingers in the seat gap to touch me. I was very shocked for some time to react. By then the flight went to landing mode. Then the moment flight touched down, I got up. Saw his hand was again on the side ready to take up any opportunity to touch me. I created such a scene, humiliated him in front of the whole flight. He thought like usual girls will keep quiet and he can get away with this. I have lodged an FIR now. He is a very rich man of Bhubaneswar and is now very humiliated in front of the people who know him. Can't believe the ordeal I had to go through but being silent is a crime. The police officer was very helpful and the Indigo staff remained with me throughout. The man is under police custody currently."

She also said, "I clicked his pictures and made videos, shouted so loud that the entire plane came forward to see him. I made sure I humiliate him as much as possible because I know law will do nothing."

The next day, February 1, a second video did the rounds where you can see the man trying to brush off the incident and tell the young woman  - "I made a mistake, a big mistake. You know I am a father of a girl too."
The woman has claimed the man is in police custody now. She says in the video - "You decided the action, I will decide the reaction."
